And suddenly, two deals!

Post by artturner » Fri Sep 23, 2016 3:54 pm

I joined Taxi last October but we were in the middle of moving so I didn't really start submitting until the end of March this year.

My current stats are 72 total submissions with 38 forwards for a 53% forward rate.

Forwards had ceased to cause much excitement because I was hearing nothing back, but other Taxi members had many more forwards without Taxi-related deals. So I settled in for the long haul.

Suddenly, around two weeks ago, within a five day period, I had two deals in process. :D

One deal is for this song/listing: https://soundcloud.com/artturnermusic/d ... in/s-nN8ey

CLASSICAL PERIOD DRAMA INSTRUMENTALS are need by an Exclusive Music Library with a very long list of impressive placements in Film, TV, and Commercials. They’re looking for Classical Instrumentals in All Tempos that could work well in Period Drama Films and TV Shows like Downton Abbey, The Young Victoria, War & Peace, etc. Please listen to the following references to get in stylistic ballpark of what they need: “Childhood” from The Young Victoria https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCa0x3Tuufo “Suite” from Downton Abbey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7ULKKJ5UpI “Andrei” from War & Peace https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o7E6W2FZlE Send them well-crafted, original Classical Instrumentals that will transport listeners back to a historical period between the mid-1700s and 1910s. Lush strings and piano flourishes would work well for this pitch. Woodwinds and horns can also be used as well. Arrangements that start out with just a piano and develop into a full orchestra could work well, but you’d be smart to stick with one motif or idea in your piece, and not try to score multiple “scenes.” Sticking with one melodic idea will make your composition easier to use! Your instrumentation should sound like an authentic orchestra with real players. If you’re using samples/virtual instruments, please make sure your dynamics and articulations are good enough to sound like the real deal. Any sounds that are “synth-y” sounding, or obviously MIDI-driven won’t work well for this pitch. Your submissions should be at least 2 minutes long with non-faded endings with natural ringouts. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced shows in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, texture and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). This company offers an EXCLUSIVE 50/50 deal, and an 80/20 split in the Writer’s favor for any applicable download fees by clients from their Library! Because this is an exclusive deal, please be sure the material you submit for this pitch is NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. You’ll get 100% of the Writer’s share, and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher’s share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit. Please submit one to three Instrumental Cues online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Thursday, July 28th, 2016. TAXI #D160728PD

The other deal is for ten dark drones (others members have also been contacted by this library): https://soundcloud.com/artturnermusic/s ... es/s-Uhqro

DARK DRONE SOUNDSCAPE INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a Music Licensing Company with a list of great placements in Film and TV. Please submit subdued, “drone-y” Instrumental Cues that could be featured along with the works of Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Hans Zimmer and Charlie Clouser. Listen to the references below to get an idea of what they’re looking for: “Perihelion” by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npFeMDdODi0 “Imperfect Lock” by Hans Zimmer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJdQnRdVaU0 “Open Eyes” by Charlie Clouser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cz5qH96nfI Submit subtle and textural Instrumental Cues with very little, to no melodic movement. Give them droning soundscapes that deliver a moody and ominous feeling, as instrumentation weaves in and out, to create a seamless piece of compelling underscore. You should stick to a singular motif throughout the entire cue to keep your submission emotionally cohesive. Your submissions can have subtle, non-tonal elements illustrated in modern cinematic sound design, or even the addition of some percussion as heard in the references. Don’t go crazy! Be sure to keep your Cue fairly simple, which is ultimately what this pitch is asking for. All submissions should be at least 2 minutes long, with non-faded endings with a natural decay/ring out are recommended. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced music in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for texture, tone, and vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (Great sounding home recordings are fine). This Company offers an EXCLUSIVE agreement with a 50/50 split. The specific terms of this agreement will be determined directly between you and the Library. Because this is an Exclusive deal, please submit music for this pitch that is not already signed to any other Libraries or Publishers. You must own or control your Copyright and Master recording. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis. No full critiques. Please submit 1-3 Cues online or per CD no later than 11:59pm (PDT), on Wednesday, August 24th, 2016.

I hope this is a sign of things to come. I would like to join the chorus of those who encourage everyone to keep at it and just concentrate on doing better work than the day before.

And make sure you have reliable email. These two deals came right after I moved my email server from my own server to Office 365. I'm not saying I lost emails before the switch, but it was enough of a coincidence to make me wonder.

Art, first off — Dance under the Rain — beautiful piece. Really shows what a gifted composer you are.
Second, grats on the deals.
Glad the dark drone listing panned out for you.
