Country Music Listings

Post by timothycook » Tue Jan 10, 2017 4:13 pm

I am curious as to what the competition inside TAXI would be for a listing like:

CLASSIC COUNTRY INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a big TV Production Company’s NON-Exclusive, In-House Music Library for placements in the hit Reality Shows they produce! They’re looking for Country Cues in All-Tempos that could be heard on playlists with acts like (but not limited to):

“Cocaine Blues” by Johnny Cash: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aq344ks1ieg

“Loving Her Was Easier” by Kris Kristofferson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCgnbRWVvU8

“You Ain't Woman Enough” by Loretta Lynn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_wwP8UZR1o

Although the references above have vocals, this pitch is for instrumentals only! Please submit well-crafted Cues that deliver a Classic Country vibe, with well-played instrumentation that’s typically heard in the Country genre. Dobro, slide guitar, banjo, fiddle, harmonica, bass, drums, etc., would all work really nicely for this pitch. Any material that sounds stiff, synthetic, or MIDI-driven won’t work well for this pitch and be sure your instrumental Cue doesn’t become overly busy or frenetic. Our best advice, keep it simple! They’re not looking for amazing compositions so much as finding Cues that create a Country backdrop for their shows.

All Cues should be at about 2 minutes in length, give or take. Your submissions should be easy to edit and have non-faded/ buttoned/stinger endings. Please do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

This company offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE, 50/50 deal. You’ll split any applicable sync fees 50/50. You’ll get 100% of the Master rights and Writer’s share, and the Library will get 100% of the Publishing for any placements they generate. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit for this opportunity. Please submit one to three Instrumental cues online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Thursday, January 12th, 2017.TAXI #S170112CC

Am I correct in thinking that there may be hundreds of submission for a listing like this? I think this because; like this tune https://soundcloud.com/timothywcook/forgotten this is pretty basic and highly available music.

Sorry for the basic questions but I am just trying to get a feel to see if I would fit into the TAXI environment.

I would guess 100 or less for a pitch like this, and remember, it's not a competition. If it's great and matches the request, it gets forwarded. No cap on how many we will forward.

It takes a while to get a feel for what will work and what won't. But all of our successful members didn't give up and become successful because they took the time to figure it out.

hope this helps,

Thanks Michael.

I get that this is a long term thing, I am just looking to see if "I fit in" to the environment.

I already have one retirement in the bag and I am thinking that this can be both fun and another source of income in 5 - 10 years.
It seems to me that I do not want to go this alone and that if I do this, TAXI will be the vehicle.
I am very familiar with peer review and I enjoy the process. Is there a sample of the feedback form that TAXI reviewers send?
It would be great to actually see a couple fo these as examples of what I can expect.

Cheers,
Tim
