I try to keep it simple. I can't remember if it was Matt V or Andy G that made this comment last year, something along the lines of "the song would not have been created without the collaboration, so I just do a 50:50 split." That's what I do. Sometimes I do most of the work, sometimes I do a little, sometimes it's pretty even. As long as the collaborators are happy with the final outcome a 50:50 makes sense. I think you might get into trouble if you tried to do 75:25 or 80:20 for one, and then something different for the other. Everyone is different, to each his own.johncolumbo wrote:One question, do you have standard contracts you get signed between you and your cowriters or do you just put together an email with the questions like who's going to pitch or the % share and then just rely on that?
I have no standard contracts yet, I'm thinking about including an Adminstrator document (based on a comment from a the 2016 rally panel, might gave been Bob Mair). This document grants one of the collaborators full authority to make a decision if needed quickly. I think it's necessary as the number of collaborators increases. If a supervisor calls and says "hey, I think this song is a great match for this project, can I place it today?" you don't want to respond "not sure, let me contact my other collaborators to make sure and get back to you in 24 hours." Most businesses today work at the speed of the internet.
As far as listing procedures, we just clarify via email. From what I've experienced the collaborator that initiates the request for a Taxi listing is usually the one that submits it. But everything is flexible.
