War Of Art By Steven Pressfield ... great book. While it's focus is for authors, nearly ALL of it applies to composing.

Matt,I am in a similar situation as you. I am also a full time musician who left a banking/wall st job. I play guitar and keyboard at nursing homes and also work with a band. I do about 30-40 gigs a month and would love to collaborate with someone or just be able to discipline myself to putting more time into the writing and recording

Hey guys - I haven't checked in on this thread in a while. Thanks for all the extra tips!

It's going well so far. My new part time job is generally keeping to its three days a week. Sometimes it spikes, so it's important to be disciplined. I agree that picking a deadline helps focus the mind and forces you to carve time out. I'm spending most of today on music, for example.

I can't remember whose advice it was but the website has turned out to be very important. I put it up yesterday, posted it on Facebook and had a (friend-of-a-friend) WFH request within a couple of hours.

I've also found that getting some 1-on-1 tutoring has been extremely helpful. I mixed a track in about an hour this morning because I learned that I was massively over-working things before.
