My favorite part is the 'practicing ten hours a day' part, because stories like this don't happen without that. I'm no great shakes at playing the guitar; compared to my heroes, I barely qualify as a hack guitarist, but there was a time when I played more than ten hours a day, just for the sheer love of hearing the instrument. Or maybe it was just ignorance of how bad I sounded, LOL. To this day, I advise students to buy a good-sounding instrument and learn to tune it well, so if nothing else ever happens, at least they'll have that. Maybe on my gravestone, it'll say, "He sounded pretty good, and he was in tune."
