2 forwards...trying to stay positive.

Post by Schmomposer » Fri Feb 10, 2017 8:37 pm

I've now been a member of taxi for about 10 months or so...I've had a total of 11 forwards out of 34 submissions, and I haven't yet had the phone ring. Hopefully i can finally punch one through the end zone.

here is the listing.
Y170128SP

SHORT, UPBEAT SOLO PIANO RIFF CUES are needed by a really large media company for placements in several projects, including hit cable TV shows and online media. This rapidly growing industry giant is building its own In-House Music Library and will pay an initial buyout fee of $250 for 100% of the Composition and Master rights. On top of the per track fee, you will also keep 100% of the Writer’s share of the publishing and make applicable performance income. Please listen to the references to get an idea of the range of styles that could work for this pitch: Upbeat Piano Instrumental Music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4Qn1VfziUM Happy Piano Music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j9CY3o5rR0 “Giddy Girl” by Jacques Ibert https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e24olO_jN0 Please submit original, lively, Solo Piano Instrumental Cue Riffs that can be used for transitions between scenes in TV shows and web-based, digital content. Your submission should convey a fun and cheerful vibe, that’s super melodic. Your Instrumental Cue can be relatively simple and stripped-down as long as the overall mood is happy and emotionally upbeat. If you’re using a Virtual Piano, please make sure your patches sound like an authentic Piano! Anything that sounds synthetic, stiff, or MIDI-based won’t work for this pitch. All submissions should be about 30 seconds in length, with Non-Faded endings. Please make sure to let your last note ring out at the end. Do NOT copy or rip off the references in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, texture and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). If you’re using Piano samples (instead of a real piano), please make sure they sound like the real thing! Because this Library offers an EXCLUSIVE deal, the music you submit for this pitch CANNOT be signed with any other publishers or catalogs. This Exclusive, In-House Library will pay an initial buyout fee of $250 for 100% of the Composition and Master rights. On top of the per track fee, you will also keep 100% of the Writer’s share of the publishing and make applicable performance income. This Library offers an EXCLUSIVE deal, so the music you submit for this pitch CANNOT be signed with any other publishers or catalogs. Please submit 1-3 Instrumental Cues Online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a yes/no basis and must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Saturday, January 28th, 2017. TAXI #Y170128SP

Congrats on the forwards Jesse! To be honest, I liked the return best out of the three, and I wouldn't fault the playing at all.

Best wishes for contacts soon!

Hi Jesse,
Great job with these cues.
Hope they earn you that call.

Hey Jesse;

I agree with Art, love Chunky Monkey. Keep plugging it, it will find a home someday.

Great pieces. Congratulations on the forwards.

Thanks Charles.

Nice to meet you. I listened to some of your tunes on the cloud of sound. Great Job!

Have a great day.

Don't waste any energy waiting for emails. It can take a few days or literally a few years before a library contacts you about a cue. A forward is an introduction to the library, they receive several forwards, sometimes dozens. They may have found something they liked before getting to your tracks, they may have passed on your track for this particular project but saved it for future reference, or they may have filled their immediate need with music they had or got somewhere else.

Best thing to do is keep writing and not worry about hearing back. People have had forwards and years nothing for several years, while others have received contact within the same week as the forward. Every situation is unique, and none of them are a reflection of your musicianship or skill. It's all about what that client needed at that moment.

The Taxi saying goes, "Write. Submit. Forget. Repeat." Emphasis on Forget. Keep plugging away, this is a numbers game. :)

Hey Jesse

There is no figuring out what a particular screener sees in what he/she hears. IMHO the bluesy one is the best of the three also. Although, they are all good tracks. I second Paulie's thoughts. Sometimes a library will contact within hours or days, and sometimes two years later they decide to do it. Many people here at Taxi are making a serious living from their efforts. Its pretty much a numbers game as long as the music being submitted is good, and yours is, believe me!!

Good luck on the forwards
Mike

P.S. Did you get a chance to see the latest Taxi TV Episode, the one about how to make $100,000 a year? Very informative and inspiring.

Also please keep in mind that every writer is different, and every Taxi member's experiences are unique. I've seen friends get forwards and sign tracks in just a few months, while others are still looking for that first deal. There's nothing like Taxi out there, the community, the forums, the people and the Rally are what make Taxi so awesome. Keep plugging away at it!
