Question about shopping a "collection"
I'm trying something new. I'm working on creating a collection of Instrumental Cues in a specific Dance style that I plan to shop as a whole. I have a few Exclusive Libraries in mind. I'm pretty sure some people here have done something like this. What I'm wanting to know is how well it works out to keep the collection intact and refusing to part it out. (I'm planning 20 cues)
Is 20 cues too many considering that if I do alternate mixes it could run to over 130 minutes of music and that wouldn't fit on a single CD? (for the libraries that still send out physical CDs)
Regards

Re: Question about shopping a "collection"
I would imagine much harder to place as anything else that doesn't come singular. A family of five brothers and sisters in need of adoption, two dogs in need of adoption that they don't want to split up, a car dealer that bundles a clunker with a much coveted car
that a wholesaler must buy as a package. Back to musical sales, how album sales have plummeted in favor of singles. I suppose an exclusive library, if they pay an upfront fee might be interested if they could pay less upfront per cue?? I think you'd have to ask.

Russell, I have also been thinking about doing this, although not necessarily to sell all the tracks as an indivisible set, but just as another way to market material - a hook, if you will.
Curious to see what others think. Thanks for bringing it up!

Russell,
If you're going to do 20 cues, pick the strongest 12-15, then when you get a bite you can always let the library know there are some more available. And when you go to market the concept just pick the strongest 3-4 for
the promo pack (obviously advising them there is a complete collection on offer).
An album may or may not be easier to sign than a single cue. Depends on the library, if they are album based or not. Do your homework and try and ensure they have not recently released something similar. For this kind of project, if it's tv oriented music, I'd start with the big WFH publishers first.

Re: Question about shopping a "collection"
Thanks, Friends.
I asked around in a couple of other places as well, and the general consensus is that I should pick the strongest 10-12 and shop those. But also the opinion is that it might not be a good idea to refuse to part out the collection. I suppose that is best since I wouldn't want to miss out on signing any of them to a particular Library I have in mind to shop them to.
Status-wise, I have 11 starts now and I've just completed arranging and mixing 3 of them.
