I'm not 100% sure what this track is - can you help?

Post by MattCurious » Sun Mar 12, 2017 9:06 am

Hey guys

I don't know what this piece of music is. It started out intended as tension, with "She's a Pass" from the Dredd soundtrack sort of in mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWfVfwz7rTM

But as often happens when left alone without references, I got a bit carried away and I think it might now be a trailer of the "building" variety. Or maybe it's heavy tension? Here it is, anyway:

Any thoughts would be welcome. It's still a bit of a work in progress (not entirely sure about the levels; think it could do with some more decorative elements; not sure about the crescendo; has no clear ending!). But I need to step away from it now until I can figure out what it is.

Hope you can help!

Thanks in advance
Matt

Thanks, David - does it maybe get a bit too big for tension towards the end though?

Just allowing first-impression responses to hit me (didn't read other comments or listen to ref track);
the piece strikes me as underscore for possibly a slo-motion scene; "military" was the first word-association.
That led me to think of possible titles:
Into The Fight
Run To The Battle

Does that help, or hurt?

Thanks, Peter - that's one of the vibes I get from the Dredd OST (albeit with a dystopian futuristic edge) so I might be in the ballpark of the reference.

The first part sounds like it should be on a game show, like "Who wants to be a millionaire" or something when they are waiting for an answer from a contestant or Jeopardy?? It evolves into a, "Please Stand By We are experiencing technical difficulties" type track?

Anticipatory Suspense?

I forgot to say that it imo would be excellent track for one of those type cues! C-Span or a channel that doesn't fill up empty time with dialog, say waiting for a presidential press conference, and the president is running late.

Yeah, come to think of it, I agree with Len911! It does get kind of big at the end but still tense. I just hear futuristic in my head!

The question I would ask myself, if I had composed this piece, is how well would it fit under dialogue?
Not that every piece has to fit under dialogue — like montage scenes for instance — but this piece seems pretty busy.

Thanks, Henry. I'm really after a genre at the moment, though. Any thoughts?

Great track!
I would agree with "futuristic tension".
It is true that it gets pretty busy, which is why I would consider making a second version without the synth coming in at 0:38.
