THIS is what TAXI Gets Before We Wrtie Listings

Post by admin » Wed Feb 08, 2017 1:51 pm

This is very apropos after my recent TAXI TV about how music is selected for advertising. I gave an elaborate, very detailed example of how many layers of people are involved, and how the "brief" may or may not line up with what's actually needed. While it was a little bit tongue-in-cheek, it was also pretty accurate, based on stuff I've been involved in, first-hand.

You can watch it here (start at 10 minutes in):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNaa4PbHIHs

So... I just got this brief and thought it exemplified what I was talking about. THIS is the information we often get, then we have to go through quite a bit of work to sort it out for you guys. We didn't run this listing because the person requesting it thought the need might already be filled, and the music from our members might be "back up." I didn't feel good about running a listing where we didn't know for sure if our members really had a shot.

This is typical of the info we often get. This is actually more than we often get because this one had some references in it, which many don't! See what you think:

Not edited. This is what we got:
****************************************************************

Overall we are looking for lyrics about “everyone” or “something/one for everyone”, should be uplifting and upbeat, but more in the vein of “here comes the sun” and not so commercial as Tim Myers and some others.

Per our ECD: "We need something bright and fun that says… “We each got one” or “We all like different things” or “We’re all individuals with different tastes”."

Here are a few references to consider:

This one has the right vibe and the right subject:

I still like the vibe of this Finley Quaye song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BCNQDy2GxI

This one is way out of our price range, but…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHp9nGctX7g

This one is too gospel, but the subject fits:

What do you have in this vein? Again looking for lyrical songs. I would need songs in the next few hours.

*****************************************************************

Are you confused? In the vein of "Here Comes the Sun." Yeah, that sounds VERY similar to the funky examples ;-)

“everyone” or “something/one for everyone”

Huh???!! Everyone WHAT?

"something/one for everyone"

Does that mean something or someONE for everyone? Clothing store or dating service? Things change a lot when comparing something for everyone and Someone for everyone. Are we supposed to read minds? Should we call for clarification? They would like that, and they'd probably just give more confusing direction during the phone call.

Just giving you a little taste of what we do BEFORE you see the listings ;-)

Michael

Hah!!! It has to be exasperating for you guys and gals!

My Favorite Line Is: "...I would need songs in the next few hours." :P

My wife told me a story once about when she was participating in a parade/celebration, and this guy who was involved with the group ran up immediately before they were going to start and said "I'm thinking of something, but I'm not going to tell you what it is! Just do it!! I know you will!" He was not joking; he was entirely serious.

The fact that you guys are capable of taking that and turning it into a usable listing is roughly as plausible to me as being able to spin straw into gold. Bless you all and thank you.

Knowing how the process works behind the scenes fosters patience, at least in my case. Thank you, Michael.

This makes me really appreciate what you guys do for us all. THANK YOU!
If you can sort that out I wouldn't be surprised if you also juggle loose soot whilst riding a unicycle. ;)

I couldn't even begin to imagine dealing with that one a daily basis.

It's funny how when the goal seems to be coming up with the best winning hand in a game of poker, it's still played the old fashioned way. The way to get the best winning hand is for everyone to lay their cards flat on the table for everyone to see, that way they would know which cards to discard and which ones to keep, ultimately leading to the best winning hand. But then I guess that's not really the goal in poker, the goal seems to be the strategy which allows for even the worst hand to win, lol!

Wow! Thanks Michael for sharing what you receive. It does help put things in perspective. Taxi does a great job of turning jibberish into something useful for members. :)

Is it possible that if the artists could work with the folks reaching out directly they could collaborate better? If the screeners mis-interpret the request and the musician only gets one shot to please the screener (not the buyer) it could leave some creative stuff on the floor? Is there ever a chance to have work groups where artist can work to create directly with the buyers?
