Three cues signed by exclusive library

Post by Onaginoffegin » Fri Jan 27, 2017 5:37 pm

Just got three of my cues signed by a library for a listing that deadlined last November. (See listing below)
So a good start to the year.

The rest of this post is for people who are new to TAXI, or who may not yet have been signed by a music library.

A number of libraries, including the one below, require multiple versions of a cue.
As an example, this library wants the full version, a 30-second version, a 60-second version, a soundbed (melody removed), and a 5-second sting version.
The abbreviated versions must have a beginning and an ending, and must be 24Bit 48KHZ WAV files.

I bring this up because the first library I signed with a few years ago, which also required alt versions, changed the way I compose tension cues, for the following reason:
It's much easier to come up with 30- and 60-second versions if you have pre-planned them during your recording process, as opposed to composing a cue that flows seamlessly from beginning to end, and then later trying to figure out how to come up with 30- and 60-second versions.

This might not work in all genres, but it certainly works for tension cues.

DARK, CREEPY UNDERSCORE INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a successful Music Library that gets lots and lots of Reality Show placements. They're looking for eerie Underscore Instrumental Cues that you'd typically hear in shows like American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, Scream Queens, etc., etc., etc. Quoting the source: "We are looking for music for our 'Eerie/Horror' library album. Instrumentals only and at least 2 minutes long. Music must work to build fear and discomfort. Tracks that gradually build to a scary climax are particularly useful!" Give them sinister sounding Cues that would compliment a scary scene or scenario well. Your submissions should focus on a tension-inducing melodic motif, while layering different instruments/elements to keep your Cues forward moving and interesting. Your submissions should be at least 2 minutes long. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). This company offers an EXCLUSIVE 50/50 deal, and an 80/20 split in the Writer's favor for any applicable download fees by clients from their Library! Please be sure the material you submit for this pitch is NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. You'll get 100% of the Writer's share, and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher's share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit. Please submit one to three Instrumental Cues online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Tuesday, November 15th, 2016. TAXI #S161115CU

Thanks Peter.

Off-topic, your Yogi Berra quote — "The future ain't what it used to be" — made me laugh.

The only two other quotes that I remember:

When he was giving someone directions to his house: "When you come to the fork in the road, take it."

And when he'd ordered a pizza, and the waitress asked if he wanted it cut into six slices or twelve, he said, "Six. I can't eat 12."

Well done Henry. Hope they work for you by getting placements.
