Thursday Night Football Opening Scene

Post by DanLuedke » Wed Oct 12, 2016 10:07 pm

Last week I got an urgent call from a TAXI friendly library asking me to make a western track for the opening scene of last week's Thursday Night Football on CBS (49ers vs. Cardinals).

Short story short: they gave me a 2-minute voiceover of Sam Elliott and notes on where they wanted scene changes, edit points, etc. I pulled in the spectacular Andy Gabrys to mix and add drums and bass to my guitar, banjo and slide. We delivered the goods in less than 24 hours, they said we nailed it and the segment aired less than 48 hours from receiving the original call.

It was a blast to work quickly, compose to voiceover and see the segment air the next day. Upfront money was involved.

My connection to this library and my co-writer, Andy Gabrys, were made possible by TAXI and this very forum. When I joined TAXI 3 and a half years ago, the scenario I described above would have seemed like an impossibly far-away dream to me. If you work hard and harness TAXI to make connections and improve your music, dreams can come true. Thank you, TAXI and thank you to everyone here who has helped me along my path.

FANTASTIC! Well done guys! And, the best part, is I bet that this customer now knows it has a solid go-to duo that can deliver in a pinch. I got one of my best day gig assignments that way... came in at the last minute to help a desperate executive out for a one-day assignment, ended up working with the company 2 1/2 years. I hope the same happens for you two!
