Forwards - how long?

Post by trevablomquist » Sat Jan 05, 2013 3:05 pm

I'm new to TAXI, I joined in October 2012. I have a two questions about forwards. I hope this is the right avenue to use in answering them. I've had 7 forwards thus far (and am super excited about each of them!). I've seen that one of them had the status changed to 'returned'. So I must not have been selected for that one -- but my questions are:

1) Is there ever a way to find out which song/artist was selected for the opportunity? I'd just love to hear their song(s) so I can learn a little more about what the company was looking for. I haven't seen anything posted in the Forwards section on that sort of stuff. Is there somewhere else that's posted?

and

2) how long does it normally take for a company to decide if they want to use your song/work with you? I'm thrilled with a hanging MAYBE, and I love the dangling of hope -- I'm just curious, and I don't want to drop the ball on my end. So, just wondering if there was any idea of time frames attached to forwards.

I'm so thrilled with the opportunities thus far that TAXI is providing, thank you!

Hi Treva.

First of all, with that many forwards in such a short time you are doing VERY well. I'm listening to your songs on the TAXI page right now. I can tell why you are getting forwards. VERY NICE! And your style is very marketable.

As far as hearing what was selected or used by the listing party... Finding out that info is improbable. Not impossible, though. Not every forwarded artist participates in the forum, but sometimes someone will post in the forwards or success story part of the forum and you will recognize the listing and such, but hearing the end result of what came of it... probably not without a bit of on-line sleuthing. For instance, you know who your songs were sent to. If you find them on the web and watch for a year or so for them to put out a product similar to what you got forwarded to... then you've got your feedback. But a delay of a year or more on that feedback loop isn't useful at all.

As far as when you hear from the listing party about the forward? 2 days to 2 years or... never. If they want to use your songs then you WILL hear from them. If they don't want to use your songs, then you WON'T hear from them. The mantra around here is "Write, Submit, Forget, Repeat."

Some people have made the mistake of contacting the listing party following forwards and deporting themselves in a non-professional and bothersome manner. That is a quick way to black-list yourself in the industry. It is usually best to just keep getting your music forwarded into that "ether." Sooner or later (probably sooner by what I'm hearing... WOW!) you will be contacted by someone who wants your stuff.

Think about it from their point of view. They get a ton of stuff. They really only have time to contact and work with the ones they want. The ones that are not "exactly" what they are looking for, they put aside. The ones put aside aren't bad, just not "right" at that particular moment for that particular need. TAXI has done their part to get you to them by pre-screening for their needs. It would be bad form for the composer/artist to end-run TAXI's process and bug the listing party. So as far as "dropping the ball," you handed the ball to TAXI and they passed it to the listing parties. Your next step in that process is two-fold. IF you get contacted THEN it's time for more ball-handling. In the meantime, feel good in the warm glow of being forwarded and look for more opportunities to pass TAXI another ball.

I'm still listening, (I switched over to http://www.trevamusic.com/ a couple of paragraphs ago.) you sound awesome and have a really good producer.

I wish you the best.

Russell

Oh, BTW.

Welcome to the forums! :D :D

New forum members usually introduce themselves in the General forum. Also questions like the one you posted here usually show up in that forum as well. (It tends to be the most active forum.) Although it certainly makes sense to post it here in the FAQ.

Again, Welcome! Looking forward to seeing more posts from you in the "forwards" and 'specially the "TAXI Success Stories"
