LooknGlass wrote:Nice work, really like this, especially like:

'Cause all day long he cares for us
From morn `til setting sun
And all that love he's carrying
Well, it must weigh a ton

Nice way to complete the thought with those lines

Good write.

Lookin Glass, your words are most appreciated, more than you probably know. Thanks so much.

Rough demo of the music is now up on my soundcloud for anyone who'd like to check it out.

It's "standard" style AABA, which I feel befits the traditional tone of the piece.

(In other words, I'm fully aware Lorde won't be cutting it anytime soon.)

Enjoy.

Hi Glen,
really like this lyric, and Oma's idea too, I can see how that works well.
Not much to add to what everyone else has said, I'd be happy to write something like this. I imagine it has a country feel, am I right?

Hi Skatzsinger-

Yes, it definitely could have a country feel if one wanted to inject it with one. It is definitely in more a traditional/standard format, but I'm sure it would lend itself nicely to a "classic" country arrangement, as opposed to a modern country feel. Although, I suppose a truly brave soul could still have a go at its AABA format, classic chord structure, and on-the-nose emotional content even in the modern format.

Thanks for the comments.

You're welcome. Always good to connect over a lyric.
Good luck with it. Do you think you'll submit it one day? In an old school country listing.

Doubtful Andy.

And here's the reason (please excuse my rant):

I write damn good music and damn good lyrics and the industry, in my view, has no real use for that, despite what they may say. It isn't about being good or talented, it's about fitting in and being superficially flawless (or being superficially flawed in the approved ways).

This is true despite the media's cynical, pandering messages about "being yourself!" or "doing your own thing!" The media doesn't REALLY want people to think that way. They want people who THINK they're special so they'll just keep buying stuff for their "special" selves. They want people who dye their hair pink to be "edgy" and never ask any REAL questions. They want people who are "rebellious", "hip" and "cool", not people who are rebellious, hip and cool.

Yes, I'm aware this song - "Strongest Man" - is particularly old-fashioned, but it was written to be that way. I know exactly what it is and what it's about; it's not meant to be re-inventing the musical or lyrical wheel. However, it's a damn good song and a savvy artist who knows who he is and what he's about could still make it work. But the industry, in my view, would never recognize something like that until someone has the BALLS to do it and then it's all SO obvious in hindsight.

So, in answer to your question, no, I probably won't be submitting it to any listings. However, if something really on-the-nose comes along listing-wise, I would consider it.

But doubtful.

Thanks for your kind comments!
