Latin Instrumental Listing...Am I on Track?

Post by mobster85 » Sat Dec 14, 2013 4:01 pm

Here is a track that I started writing a while back and I re-visited today. Do you all think I am going in the right direction? As always your opinions are welcome and appreciated.

LATIN INSTRUMENTALS in ALL STYLES are needed by a highly successful Production Music Library that has placed a TON of music in a truckload of the hottest shows on TV today. They love the music they get from TAXI, and our members love getting checks from the shows. It's important that your instrumentals sound authentic, and not stiff or MIDI sounding for this company. Give him authentic Latin instrumentation for this pitch. All tempos are welcome. The specific terms of your agreement with this company will be determined on a track-by-track basis. You must own or control 100% of your Master and Composition to submit for this pitch. Please submit one to three instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than Friday, December 27, 2013. TAXI #Y131227LI

Obviously I am still in the process of writing this but here is another version. Not sure whether it fits or whether the ending works. Let me know what you think.

I think rhythmically I am ok but not sure about harmony.

Hey Bob, I didn't really hear "Latin" in either version of this song. The closest it came was the drum breakdown, but aside from that it mostly seemed like a very American commercial tune (which, this song would probably stand a better chance on those listings than a Latin instrumental listing). Some gut-instinct suggestions to get a more pronounced Latin vibe on this would be to get rid of whatever synth is holding down those chords in the background, maybe replace the acoustic guitar with some nylon strings, and add some Latin percussion - maracas, shakers, etc.

Bob,

I think Matt is correct.

This youtube example is kind of corny because of the sound effects, but I think it helps to hear the flavor. (Not the tempo because you are going for faster, but instrumentation, the type of percussion, the type of chords used etc.) It was just a basic search I did and chose just based on what sounded the best of 3 or 4 choices. Just skip around on it if you check it out.

Okay I listened to the advice and wrote something new in this genre. Let me know what you think. It is in the initial stages but I am not sure what other instruments to use besides working on the drum track and adding percussion. I used a latino organ but I am open to suggestions. As always Thanks for your help.

Bob,

Excellent song! Great job on the guitars. I could barely hear the organ and was wondering about what seemed to be handclaps (not sure if it was, maybe very reverby). I could imagine more percussion being used, maybe cabasas and/or others, but something to support the cool guitar rhythms. Maybe bass also? Not sure where you want to take this, but I think as far as the writing and guitar playing, it is a great tune. Very impressive.

thanks Bob I appreciate your kind comments but you convinced me that the original track that I wrote wasn't Latin enoughso I worked very hard on this and I'm trying to target the listing. my goal is to nail it and get forwarded and get placed thanks for your kind words and your help I appreciate it.

Peace,
