Mirror of our Memories

Mirror of our Memories ©2014 Robert George BMI

There’s an old dog layin’ on a throw rug by the furnace
And I’m drinkin’ lukewarm coffee from a bent-up thermos
Sundown’s pourin’ through my western window like molasses
And tomorrow’s more uncertain with each day that passes

And it’s strange how shadows of the heart
Are reflected better in the dark
Time and life are what a person sees
In the mirror of our memories

All my rhymes take root in stagnant pools of salty sadness
And my music blossoms in the midnight sun of madness
In the morning I’ll take pride in what I have created
Yet like always by sundown tomorrow I will hate it

And it’s strange how shadows of the heart
Are reflected better in the dark
Do we each have diff’rent destinies
Or just one that ends with “Rest in Peace”

When my heart is troubled and the night is long and dull
Cold ideas bubble in the cauldron of my skull

There’s a black parade of clouds and snowfall is confetti
I suspect my art is something pitiful and petty
Either all my rhymes are restless steps in life’s rich journey
Or I’m dead already and my songs are taxidermy

And it’s strange how shadows of the heart
Are reflected better in the dark
Time and life are what a person sees
In the mirror of our memories

There’s an old dog layin’ on a throw rug by the furnace
And I’m drinkin’ lukewarm coffee from a bent-up thermos…

Oh my, Robert!

All my rhymes take root in stagnant pools of salty sadness
And my music blossoms in the midnight sun of madness
In the morning I’ll take pride in what I have created
Yet like always by sundown tomorrow I will hate it

I don't even know what to say...
Except thank you for sharing your heart and soul with us.
~Bob
