Tip from VanderBoegh leads to 10 track deal

Took some inspiration from Matt Vander Boegh who had a recent post where a signed song led to a 68 song deal. I remember reading that post and thinking, way to go - I have to do more of that.

Anyway last year we got a Dubstep forward that led to a signed track or two with a LA publisher. I later found out from the source direct that they were looking for more of the same for some new reality shows they were sourcing for.

Submitted 10, got 10 signed. Wish I had 68!

Howard! So cool, man! Thanks for the shout-out, but really it's just plain old-fashioned sales. If you've already got the stuff in your catalog, see who will take it. Glad you made it work and I can't wait to hear about the placements that I'm sure will come soon.

Sorry but I have to ask....sales as in contacting and , so to speak, or having a good pitch. You talking about numbers specifically or delivery? Of course it helps when you write great stuff.......

Hey Chuck, "sales" in this sense just means having a product that you present to an interested party. Anytime I get a deal offer, I always follow up our conversations by giving the publisher the opportunity to hear additional tracks that fall into a similar vein as the stuff they initially wanted to sign. It hasn't failed me yet. Looks like Howard did the same thing this time around. My mantra (well, one of my many mantras, haha) is that you can't sell something that you haven't pitched. So as long as you give a publisher the opportunity to hear extra songs once you've already been invited in the door, chances are good that they'll take more. It's the standard sales "upsell". Just make sure the quality is good, and present the tunes! It's a great way to leverage a single forward into a multiple-song deal.
