Thanks Andy!!

The problem with this piano patch is even at the lowest velocities, I can't get those delicate timbers out of it. I think it's just a bad sample (but the best I have at the moment) :(

Wonder if I should send 2 versions - With and without the strings? Double my chances for twice the fee!?

For what I have to work with today, and judging by the last few screener comments, I should have a better than 60% chance of making it (statistically). Even the old version (as crappy as it was) made it through once last summer ...

Deep breath ...

hmm bummer. what piano is it?

is it really eq'd or compressed right now? might be a little extreme for this kinda tune.

might as well send two versions in two different submissions and see whether one of them gets through. good luck!

Andy -

It's Presonus' stock grand. Nothing overly fancy. Not bad when it's in the mix, but not my first choice for solo stuff.

Right now, there's some eq on it (mostly in the low mid/mid high range). Upside down semicircle shape and a tiny bit of compression.

If I keep the eq flat, it sounds pretty muddy with some bright high spots.
Wonder if I lose the strings if I should do some bouncy things with the room shape/size?

Peter,

Great song and piano work. Could be fine as is. It does have a somewhat lo-fi sound and hopefully that is what you were going for. Not a "rich" piano sound. Again, if that's what you wanted, a distant sound on the piano (which is effective in it's own right) then mission accomplished. Really enjoyed closing my eyes and listening to this one.

Thank you, Bob!!!

I was trying to soften the edges on this pretty harsh piano sample as much as I could. ;)

I think in the end, I'm going to submit with and without strings and let them decide ... Hopefully there's a yes in there!

Got the dreaded return email on this one, but is was OK.

Screener said it was "lovely" but not quite sad enough for this particular listing.
Oh well ... I can live with that.

Ha, Russell!!

I hear next week, there'll be a meloncholic, horny (with a touch a rage), piano listing.

Hey Peter the song sounds great ! I received a return on mine I sent a song in for the same listing mine was called FOR ALWAYS They said it was complantiveb more than sad. I believe David got a forward on his piece His melodies were very heart tugging.

It's starting to look like the screener was either sitting there with a Thesaurus... or is a Woman Psychiatrist. ;)

(i'm thinking next time I do a custom critique, I'm asking for that screener.... I could really use some highly accurate metadata)
