Walking Wounded In These Heels

Post by shanereaction » Mon Mar 31, 2014 5:49 pm

I've had this song title in my head for a few years now but just couldn't write anything that seemed to fit. I think I've finally (hopefully) cracked it. I hope you enjoy.

Walking Wounded In These Heels
(S. Telford)

I bought myself a new pair of shoes
I couldn't afford to kill my blues
The highest heel that I could find
To lift this low that's on my mind.
But I still feel small
When I'm six feet tall
And no man could see
What it means to be
A woman on the brink of breaking down

A woman's heart breaks in a different place
Underneath the lipstick and the lace
Right behind the makeup on her face
The eyelashes, the mini skirts
They soon disguise a woman's hurt
Only a girl could know how it feels
To be walking wounded in these heels

I bought myself a little black dress
'Cause those sexy ones sure look the best
The tightest one that I could find
To try and keep you off my mind
But I still feel down
When I'm in this gown
And no man could see
What it means to be
A woman on the edge of insanity

A woman's heart breaks in a different place
Underneath the lipstick and the lace
Right behind the makeup on her face
The eyelashes, the mini skirts
They soon disguise a woman's hurt
Only a girl could know how it feels
To go walking wounded in these heels

Every woman in the world has been there before
Hiding our feelings til we can't any more
Until our feet get sore

A woman's heart breaks in a different place
Underneath the lipstick and the lace
Right behind the makeup on her face
The eyelashes, the mini skirts
They soon disguise a woman's hurt
Only a girl could know how it feels
To be walking wounded in these heels

Very cool!!

What genre were you thinking of putting those lyrics to?
Do you sing too?

I think the lyrics lend themselves to to Country for sure. I don't sing or play any instruments very well unfortunately!

How would you like to get your work noticed?

Taxi's definitely cool in that people colab all the time.

I have a feeling your tune could go either way (ballad or ballsy, rock/blues). I've done some swampy rock instrumentals for TV https://soundcloud.com/moanakeiki/bad-b ... tal-c-2013 It also sounds like a female should take the vocal on here.

In any event, it reads pretty nice!

Of course the dream is to hear a song of mine all over the world haha, but I've just been writing as a way of relaxing and distracting me from other things. But recently people have been commenting that I should and write seriously.

I collaborated on Taxi years ago and had an 'almost' success, an Irish artist was looking to release the song but management had the final say and at the last minute everything changed! But it was still a great experience (even if it wasn't good for the nerves)

That track you linked me to is great, I definitely still have my toe tapping. I've listened to a few of your tracks and you definitely have something special goin' on!

Thank you much for the listen!!! :D

There's a saying ... 100% of nothing, or, 10, 30, 50% of something.

I think breaking into TV/Film is a much easier way to go. Think of your song being played in a movie scene, or at the end of a TV show where the story line is applicable to the scene ... There's some GREAT money in there!!

It's too bad your other song didn't go where you wanted it to. Believe me, every time I used to write, I would think - this is my heart, soul, everything, and it's worth so much. In reality, it's worth nothing if it's just going to sit on a hard drive and collect dust. I had to realize quickly that I need to write as much as I can and not get too attached, in trade for something getting signed and licensed. There's always iTunes too ... Assuming you're a marketing genius.

Haha, I don't know about marketing genius but I've somehow managed to make a few connections over the years that I'm sure would help if I hit gold and had a really great song. My friend won The Voice UK last year and through Twitter I've ended up with a few famous 'followers' like LeAnn Rimes but like I said, that means nothing without a great song haha!

And yeah, I'll be honest, hearing my song in any platform would be a huge step forward! I guess that's what's so great about Taxi! So many people aiming for that (and achieving it)

Hi Shane,

I really liked your lyrics and the emotional concept behind them.

Had you considered making the chorus from the same point of view as the verses ? ie in the first person - the female singer direct, as her saying the words. If you did that you'd have a huge anthemic chorus - all women like to band together when hurt by men  Kinda like "I will survive" (not sure if you are old enough to remember that 8-) )

It would be one of those 'well stuff him/them' songs - female confidence in the face of adversity songs  which are kinda popular when done well

Love it :)

Sláinte, Amanda

ps I'm curious which Irish artist ;)
