I’d Rather Be Judged By Twelve (Than Be Carried by Six) ©2014 Robert George BMI
Chuck and I were were havin’ lunch at Chili’s
Watchin’ Fox News on the big TV
And we saw an old man had been murdered
In a home invasion robbery
Chuck said, “things’re gettin’ bad
And I live on my own
Maybe it’s time I got some
Protection for my home
Cos here’s my philosophy
Though I’m just a hick from the sticks
I’d rather be judged by twelve
Than be carried by six”
I said, “take it from a former soldier
It’s no simple thing to shoot a man
You must replace mercy and compassion
With a stony heart and steady hand”
Chuck finished up his fries
And growled, “you might be right
But I ain’t givin’ up what’s mine
Without a hellavuh fight
Cos here’s the way I see it
Though I’m just a hick from the sticks
I’d rather be judged by twelve
Than be carried by six
Yeah, I’d rather be judged by twelve
Than be carried by six”
Well, I hadn’t seen ole Chuck in quite a while
When I was jury foreman on that trial
And that son of a bitch was guilty as sin
So I’m happy we convicted him
Cos he busted into poor Chuck’s doublewide
And he stabbed him in the arm and side
I was sure surprised when Chuck said later
That he thought he was the lucky one
He was almost glad he hesitated
When the moment came to use his gun
He said, “if I’d killed that kid
I might hate myself today
So let any man thing twice
If his heart begins to say
“Here’s the way I see it
Though I’m just a hick from the sticks
I’d rather be judged by twelve
Than be carried by six
I’d rather be judged by twelve
Than be carried by six”
I'd Rather By Judged by Twelve (Than Be Carried By Six)
