Feedback for listing TAXI # Y140423CO

Post by Halswell » Wed Apr 16, 2014 9:22 pm

Hey there,

I was thinking of submitting a song I wrote a few months ago (for G-YAWS!) to this listing. All thoughts welcome. Lyrics below: https://soundcloud.com/halleyelwell/good-time-hero

CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY HITS are needed by a great Record Producer who's currently working with a new up and coming artist. He's looking for songs in the stylistic ballpark of artists like Brandy Clark, Kacey Musgraves, Miranda Lambert, etc. Songs must have conversational and cleverly written lyrics with themes commonly found in the Country genre, but nothing cliché or corny. Inventive, fresh melody lines will help you stand out from the crowd for this opportunity. Although this listing is for a Female artist, the Producer is willing to listen to Songs with Male vocals, as long as they can easily translate to a Female perspective. This producer will listen to stripped-down or fully produced demos. Your recording quality (even for stripped-down demos) needs to be clean, clear, well balanced, and good enough to represent your song well. Please submit one to three Songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than Wednesday, April 23, 2014.

Good Time Hero by Halley Elwell ASCAP

you’re gonna build me a shelf nice and strong
that I can perch all my troubles on
For now it’s going to be all alright,
for now, for now.

You’re gonna pick me a bunch wild flowers,
and blind me with your charm and all the colors
Smells so sweet that I’ll forget what’s wrong,
and it’s all alright, for now.

But when the times get tough
turn my back and you’ll disappear, I know because

youre my good time hero
you’re my good time hero,
you’re no good for me, oh baby don’t I know
You’re my good time hero

You’re gonna to take me on a trip
no there ain’t no car problem you can’t fix
take the back roads without a map,
it’s all good times for now.

You’re going to build a fire and smart lean-to,
and under the stars baby it’s just me and you,
you’ll keep blowin smoke, and I won’t hold my breath
cuz I’ve caught on by now

and when the times get tough
turn my back and you’ll disappear, I know because

you’re my good time hero
you’re my good time hero,
I don’t ask for too much or then you will have to go
You’re my good time hero

We apologize for not having come back to you sooner, dear Halley  :?

Your Post must have had a journey that escaped our eyes so far ! But now it is back at the Top in the new Posts.

Ok; I am listening to "Good Time Hero"

Woah, this is so good. I love the way the two Female Singers alternate their Phrases.

"Songs must have conversational and cleverly written lyrics with themes commonly found in the Country genre, but nothing cliché or corny. Inventive, fresh melody lines will help you stand out from the crowd for this opportunity."

Exactly what you achieved !

The Mix is completely professionally done. I love what I hear right, left, center as the Song develops.

I would put more Volume to the Music. It is difficult I know, because we enjoy so much the very good performance of the two Female Singers. They are so in Synchro, they sound like Twins !

I enjoyed this Song very much indeed.

Hey Halley - really like this song. I think the vocal(s) sound very contemporary actually, even bordering on indie/folk - that may or may not be what you want to hear, and I'm probably wrong anyway :) - its just when I heard it I was reminded of Mouldy Peaches stuff etc. I'm trying to listen to some of the artists mentioned but my Youtube plugin is acting the goat, which never happens! typical...

The vocals are centre stage which are really nice so the instrumentation isn't as important but the acoustic sounds a bit processed. perhaps its DI'd?

really really dig it.

not a great critique cuz technical stuff aint my bag and i'm not familiar with the listing genre but just wanted to give a thumbs up. :) (when are we going to get a thumbs-up emoticon??)

Halley,

I wouldn't call this contemporary country, so I would save the $5.

There's a very nice melody in there. In fact, the melody I hear would be perfect for children' s music. - it's got a very sing-songy aspect to it (which is really hard to do correctly, so that's a compliment). I know the lyrics don't work for that genre, but that's just some food for thought.

Hey, Halley,

John has entirely and accurately expressed my own reaction. This is not country – and certainly not contemporary country. It is, however, a good kids' song.

you know that "poodle petted, fish fedded, and I even wrote this song" commercial? That's where this is for me. Not contemporary country but better for a TV ad.

Whoa! Didn't see that coming. Thank you for the feedback. Would definitely need to rewrite these lyrics to make it child appropriate! ;)
I've been working really hard on making this mildly presentable given my janky DAW situation and perhaps got a little far away from reality.
It's been fun to sing, so maybe it will just sit in my repertoire for my gigs.

Catherine thank you for giving this post a bump and the kind words!

Thank you all again for taking the time to listen and comment.

All best,
Halley
