Need advice on this one, please...

Post by nick.moxsom » Fri Apr 18, 2014 6:58 am

Hey, all Taxi hailers,

I have a new one with Axel and we need your opinions, please, on what sort of opportunities this might be a fit for.

It's on my Taxi page and it's called 'Rollin''.

Many thanks, and Happy Ishter.
Nick

Love this tune Nick. Really cool. Sounds a bit indie blues/rock to me...but I couldn't identify genre's if they bit me in the *ss.

Great vocal effects, love the riff, my only suggestion is I want to hear some type of singing over the chord section that starts around :49 and again later in the song( it feels like the chorus to me). Other than that I think this tune is great.

Good luck with it.

lovin this. great vibe. dare i say contemporary? :)

I would def want to hear some added instrumentation in the second verse and continuing on building. Or play with some FX. something to differentiate verse 1 from verse 2. I hear you have a little extra in chorus 2, it could probably be more overt too.

and the breaths at 2:15 totally feel good with the groove, but the same thing straight off the top could use some volume automation just a little to keep the accents pumping and driving the beat. to my ears anyways.

Nick,

I was going to say it sounds modern (absolutely no decade jumping here!). More than that, I can't say.

I'll echo what Andy said. Maybe add something into the 2nd verse, to build and differentiate it as the songs goes on.

It's a nice track and performance which will find a home somewhere.

John

Nick good stuff

Got it "rollin" round in my mind now:)

Only nit I have is that riff of four (identical) at I think from 48-52 and the following. Seems like it has to change there after two reps?

sung well. vox might be 1db too hot ha ha

ya got some great things goin lately

Keep it up

Paul

Love it, Nick. I'd say (neo) blues listings, maybe a la Black Keys. They are pretty innovative with their rhythms and can also go minimalistic like this.

Just heard "China" with the new arrangement too. Wasn't aware you have kept working on it. I really like it. Thanks for hanging in there.

Nick!!!

REALLY cool, man!! Like the syncopated breaths and distorted vocals!
I'm thinkin' Gritty Indie Blues? Edgy Indie Rock? I'm sure there are or will be PLENTY of listings looking for this one.

Good stuff!!!

Nick, Rollin' is awesome. I love the intro!!! At first I'm thinking what are they doing, but a fraction of a second later I am saying this is great. Like that syncopated breathing... it captures the essence of the song. Love the percussion. Great beat. Great bass line. Rhythm section is tight. Love the tone on the electric guitar and those riffs are cool. And there they are out of breath again, like my dog after a long run. :) I got rollin' on my mind. This is just a fine song. I can see this in a movie scene, I can see it in all kinds of commercials... auto... fashion... anything that is looking for an upbeat, modern rock tune with attitude and a little urban flavor. Loved it!!! You guys rock.

Wow, some kind praise and some astute suggestions, as always.

Plenty to think about, particularly changing it up a little more in Verse 2.

Thanks y'all.

Nick
