Black and White (Teen Pop?)

Post by shanereaction » Sat Jun 14, 2014 12:46 pm

I was looking back at my first ever co-write (about seven years ago now, sheesh I'm old) and it through another website for a Hilary Duff opportunity - it got forwarded but nothing came of it... Anyway, I relistened to it and thought 'heck I can write something better now' so I tried my best to get my head into the 'teen pop' mindset and this is what 'popped' up.

Black and White
(S. Telford)

The grass is always greener
I've seen the other side
I've walked among the shadows
and took it in my stride.
The grass is always greener
I've seen that silver line
I've walked among the shadows
and made it out just fine.
You'll make it out in time.

If all you see is black and white
Just chase the sun and you'll find light
You'll watch the colours come
You'll hear the river run
If all you feel is hurt and pain
Just reach for clouds and drink the rain
You'll wash the sadness out
And that's what life's about
That's what life's about.

The grass is always greener
if you open your eyes
Don't walk among the shadows
Just look up to the sky.
The grass is always greener
You'll see that silver line
Don't walk among the shadows
And you'll be doing fine.

If all you see is black and white
Just chase the sun and you'll find light
You'll watch the colours come
You'll hear the river run
If all you feel is hurt and pain
Just chase the clouds and drink the rain
You'll wash the sadness out
And that's what life's about
That's what life's about.

If all you see is black and white
Just chase the sun and you'll find light
You'll see the light.
It's shining bright.

If all you see is black and white
Just chase the sun and you'll find light
You'll watch the colours come
You'll hear the river run
If all you feel is hurt and pain
Just chase the clouds and drink the rain
You'll wash the sadness out
And that's what life's about
That's what life's about.

Hey there,

I dug the lyrics and was caught tapping my foot :D I felt it around 133 bpm (checked it with the metronom). What tempo did you strive for?

Does the line "You'll make it out in time." stand for a short Pre-Chorus or a subside for the first verse? Cause it's the ninth (uneven) line.

133bpm sounds about right to me!!

And yeah, I see it as a bit of a prechorus before the real 'energy' kicks in for the main chorus!
