Something To Believe In (Country)

Post by shanereaction » Sun Jun 15, 2014 6:34 pm

I don't think country is my strong point (those Nashville-types sure have made it difficult to live up to their standards). But hey! I tried!

Something To Believe In
(S. Telford)

The only hymn I ever knew
Was daddy when he had a few
He'd sing Amazing Grace so out of tune
And mama never said a prayer
Unless she had a bad health scare
She'd pray to God please don't take me too soon.
And what makes it even worse
is I've never been to church
And I can't help but feel I'm missing out.

I want something to believe in
That's what I'm really needing
'Cause hope and faith are running out too fast
I can't live without a reason
And that's how I've been feeling
'Cause life alone ain't something that can last.

The only time I ever pray
is if I'm having a bad day
and even then I don't know what to do
But mama hasn't said a prayer
Not even when she lost her hair
She said a God wouldn't be so cruel.
And what makes it even worse
is I've still not been to church
And I can't help but feel time's running out

I want something to believe in
That's what I'm really needing
'Cause hope and faith are running out too fast
I can't live without a reason
And that's how I've been feeling
'Cause life alone ain't something that can last.

And now mama won't see Christmas
I'm embarrassed to admit this
But now I never leave the church
I just hope the praying works

I want something to believe in
That's what I'm really needing
'Cause hope and faith are running out too fast
I can't live without a reason
And that's how I've been feeling
'Cause life alone ain't something that can last.
