Bossa nova instrumentals

Post by mladendomic » Wed Jun 18, 2014 4:29 pm

I need advice.
The listing says:

"...They're on the hunt for authentic sounding Songs and Instrumentals in the stylistic ballpark of Sergio Mendes, Joao Gilberto, Astrid Gilberto, etc..."

How does in your opinion "authentic sounding" relates to production?
I hear a lot of bossa nova songs from that period that has a vocal in one channel and drums in opposite and things like that.

Is it risky to create an "oldie production" for this one, or it is safer to do it "contemporary"?

I think that the "authentic sounding" remark refers to the tonal quality and time feel of the piece, and not so much the production aspect. It's a valid concern of yours, however.
