One Can Only Hope ©2014 Robert George BMI
Well, the clock above my fireplace
Watches with a poker face
As the evening crawls across my floor
Duct tape’s peelin’ of my window screens
And I’m washin’ down some pinto beans
With a tall boy can of lukewarm Coors
And yet somewhere in a scene that’s negative
There’s a light that shows where morning lives
As the nights keep flowing by
That’s just heaven showing why
We need more than ourselves to cope
So when darkness is around me
And it feels like doubt has found me
Heaven knows that one can only hope
Well, my kitchen sink’s my Laundromat
Magpies soiled my welcome mat
And now fact’ries crowd the scenery
I ain’t had a decent raise in years
And I feel like I’m a rusty gear
In some company’s machinery
And yet when I’m sad and I don’t seem myself
There’s a pathway to redeem myself
Cos the nights keep flowing by
But that’s heaven showing why
We need more than ourselves to cope
So when darkness is around me
And it feels like doubt has found me
Heaven knows that one can only hope
One can only hope
When the house is still and you can’t face the night
Look within and let your heart embrace the light
Cos the time keeps flowing by
But that’s heaven showing why
We need more than ourselves to cope
So when darkness is around me
And it feels like doubt has found me
Heaven knows that one can only hope
One can only hope
One can only hope…
