What S/S lisitngs would you submit this for...?

Post by Piewackit1 » Sun Jul 20, 2014 6:15 pm

I'm having a hard time figuring out what I could submit this one for. It has some contemporary sounds but I'm not sure it leans far enough to submit to any listing that says contemporary.

Any suggestions?

It reminded me stylistically of Regina Spector, maybe that could be a useful reference?
I would notch up the vocal a touch, so the vocals come more to the forefront of the mix.

With the vocalist's style and when the tune drops into the groove of the chorus, I was reminded of the Alabama Shakes (even though there are not a lot of heavy guitar riffs).

Note, I thought the vocal treatment in the acoustic sections needed a little tweaking as it's not sitting perfectly against the acoustic guitars. It's the right treatment for the chorus, so maybe create a separate vocal channel for the verse and apply a slightly different effect? Just my two cents.
