Reclusive Author

Reclusive Author ©2014 Robert George BMI

I sat outside just before the sun rose
With a novel I first read when I was ten
It’s a haunting work of art, and it reached so many hearts
But the man who wrote it never wrote again

It’s been decades since he disappeared from view
Folks have said that he’s been seen by just a few

One time at a bull fight in Pamplona
Then a rodeo in Arizona
And fly-fishing way up in Montana
Or arm-wrestling for rum in Havana
He is almost like my father
And his words will touch the end of time
Somehow that old reclusive author
From a distance is a friend of mine

Then I put my book down as the sunrise
Lay along the foothills like a laurel wreath
I began to think of who, painted such a vivid view
Wrote the sky and sculpted ev’ry coral reef

Though this world has drifted and the light’s grown dim
If you know just where to look you’ll still see Him

In the dewdrop on a pink rose petal
Sunrise shining on a silver kettle
And the beauty of a feathered choir
Singing softly for me on a wire
O the Good Lord is my Father
And His works will touch the end of time
And like that old reclusive author
From a distance He’s a friend of mine
He’s a friend of mine

And all I can do is sit and stare
Cos the works of man just can’t compare

To the dewdrop on a pink rose petal
Sunrise shining on a silver kettle
And the beauty of a feathered choir
Singing softly for me on a wire
O the Good Lord is my Father
And His works will touch the end of time
And like that old reclusive author
From a distance He’s a friend of mine

O like that old reclusive author
From a distance He’s a friend of mine
He’s a friend of mine

Very interesting perspective, on a personal level... as I recently had occasion to sit in a neighbor's front yard patio, doing a favor in their absence: watching for a utility service repairman coming so that I could provide access to the house and grounds. As it was a beautiful late-morning time, I sat with notebook in hand, thinking I might be inspired to write a song... or at least some lyric ideas.

So far, these are just the notes I jotted down in response to what my eyes were taking in; only the last few lines look like they could be the beginning of a rhyming song idea. Nevertheless, maybe sharing them here on this part of the forum could open some other possibilities. Here ya go:

Notes from an Afternoon Conversation
(7-11-2014)

Looking at the flowers and trees; wondering, “ why does God like looking at them?”

“For the same reason you do…” came the reply.

Then I wondered, “then what makes them beautiful to me?!”

After a few moments pause, looking intently at some colorful flowers that seemed to ‘look happy’…yet, not sure what my answer would be, came these thoughts:

“Because they live… they are living… they have life; not like a statute
that is dead and still.
Life itself declares that He is God; the Maker of it… and all things created agree.
The Author of Life is adored by nature.
True praise rings out as they (trees) sway in the breezes.
Flowers display all kinds of colors and blends that only Heaven knows.
Trees humbly bend to bow; it’s almost as if they were singing their appeal;
‘Ah… if only we had knees… we would kneel!’ “

Cheers.
Peter
(ps: anybody wanna help construct a song out of any of this?)

Hi Peter and thanks for your reply. Nature is surely an inspiration for us all. Good luck with your song idea. :)
