Cubase Help? Midi Grid has shifted, can't restore

Post by cassmcentee » Wed Jul 23, 2014 9:17 am

A little help requested.... HELP!!!
My midi grid has made a shift through all of my projects to where it no longer lines up with the tempo
...and on top of that the grid has created a bigger gap between the last and first line of every bar!
I have gone rooting through the usual suspects...
Grid set to "Bars and Beats", checking it against "Seconds", "Linear"
Transporter set to "Bars and Beats", checked it the same way as above

This might be related...
On a New Project...
I was experimenting on some swinging rhythms with Groove Agent and Cubase's Beat Builder
I say it might be related because (if I remember correctly) the next project/mix I opened up had the grid shift problem
Now it is that way for any project I open up
So obviously it has to do with my Global Workspace Pattern?!?

Any words of wisdom/advice???????

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Steinberg's Forum Sucks IMHO

wow. sorry I can't help but yes must be something to do with the beat designer. I never used it. I would recommend checking out the cubase videos on youtube about that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atwdaesverQ

to swing things why not just sidechain? its very easy in cubase.

in midi editor can you not just move the top to line up the grids? see on both sides at the top of the bars you see in black the name of the vst. just click on that and move it back into position. make sure quantize is selected so it snaps on the grid.

Thanks for the help Gavin!
I just figured it out...
While working on a track of mine & Crawdaddy's I saved a "Quantize Preset" for it so that I could use
that quantize pattern for future projects...
My assumption was that it would only affect that project.
Now I know I have to reset the quantize every time AFTER I work on a project were I use that specific setting.
Otherwise it just stays "on".

I found it in the "Key Editor" window
on the left
Preset Management on the Quantize bar

Oh my god was I starting to panic
Thanks again!
Cass

Interesting. I learnt something new again. Thanks! :D

Great to see another Cubase user on here. I'm loving Groove Agent. I've tried a few other ones including recently Stylus RMX and Groove Agent SE4 sounds clearer and better to my ears..so rediscovering it and just using that now for drums. I'm happy now. :)

If i understand you well, dear Cass/Robert,

You have a Major problem that has something to do with Information.

Your Computer has just got/obtained an Information that you do not want.

So, it is a matter of telling your Computer to act ... otherwise ! And to get back to how things were before.

And the place to go is the Source, on an Apple Mac Computer, we call it the Library. So try to go to the root/source/origin/ and change, voire delete, the recent input that is causing the problem, the misunderstanding between you and your Computer.

Thanks Catherine! :D

Gavin, I'm typically using three layers of drums
EZ2
Groove
Loopmash
and mixing them together (combining strengths!)

The Quantize happened with an experiment

I have those 3 and also RMX. Heard producers say its best to keep it simple and learn your vst's inside and out. So since I'm a beginner I've decided to scale things back and just use Nexus2 (with some expansions) and Groove Agent SE4 to write with. After writing I can look to replace..upgrade sounds if necessary. But those 2 seem to gel well together and seem to do what ever I need for whatever song I want to write. They are very versatile and both sound really good. Also more importantly they trigger my creativity more than any other vst's.
