Kool and the Gang song – You Just Wanna Dance

Hey, all

There was a listing a couple of weeks ago saying that Kool and the Gang are looking for a new single to celebrate their 50th year (!). I missed the deadline cos this song refused to make itself know until it was too late to submit, but the KATG are playing in my home town in early Sept, and there's a chance I could get a back-stage pass and play it to them directly. I'm thinking there's no way these guys want to reinvent themselves in their seventies, but they went down very well at Glastonbury last year, and there's a whole generation that just wants to dance to stuff like this.

So my question is, in the light of the current resurgence of dance-floor songs (the a la's were themselves, Daft Punk and Michael Jackson/Justin Timberlake etc.), would this song do a good job of introducing younger people to KATG, or is it not 'modern-sounding' enough? I'll probably tweak the vocal ad-libs, but I'd like your opinion on whether the lyric (below) is appropriate or just out of date. I'd love your thoughts.

I find that the private part of soundcloud works very well for this. I will post tracks and keep them private, but send a link to people to listen.. It's also great for comments of course cause you can comment right there. Then, when you are ready, you can either replace the file, or make it public, or simply take it down.

nick, definitely has the kool/gang vibe...i like the laid back feel and clever use of their song titles and lines in your lyrics.

the only thing is, it's laid back in feel and tempo, but the beat is more straight driving disco. i think i know what you are trying to achieve with this combination, but the feel and beat need to be married together better or differently somehow. maybe something with the drum kit? or sing the lyric more r&b-ish? i don't know, but the track is very intriguing. good luck in getting back stage!

I like it. Seem KATG to me.
You might try a little faster tempo, see how that works. Give it a bit more energy.
Lyric seems fine. I might change "Get your party on" ... but idk.
