Sleeping Bags and a Beat-Up Couch ©2014 Robert George BMI
Granpa served his country proudly
Always said it did him good
And he sure loved to go hunting
Out there sleepin’ in the woods
And he liked those beer-stained cushions
Downstairs in that big old house
For a long, long time he said, that his fav’rite beds
Were sleeping bags and a beat-up couch
It’s been over thirteen years now
Since poor Gramma passed away
And they’d slept upstairs together
Most nights since their wedding day
He still kept their bed and pillows
Made of pure goose down
But they just made him weep, so places he would sleep
Were sleeping bags and a beat-up couch
Peaceful beds are rare and magic things
And a nest for love and memories and dreams
And for all we buy and sell and own
They’re a simple treasure in a happy home
So today I stand before you
And I give this eulogy
And I know you hear me, Granpa
Up wherever you may be
Rooms are many and they're peaceful
In the Good Lord’s House
So with Gramma at your side, rest assured you’ve left behind
Your sleeping bags and a beat-up couch
O For a long, long time he said, that his fav’rite beds
Were sleeping bags and a beat-up couch
Sleeping bags and a beat-up couch…
