Percussion Fwd and an interesting lesson to be learned

Post by Russell Landwehr » Wed Aug 20, 2014 6:40 pm

I just got a percussion (bombastic) forward. (yay!) I already had a cue that I thought was pretty close but I also made another targeted JUST for this listing.(They are both on my TAXI page)

"Battledress" was the one I'd made previous and it got returned. The one I composed TARGETED for the listing was "Big Sticks" and it collected the forward.

See where I learned an interesting lesson?

Oh and... this was Dispatch... have I mentioned that I LOVE dispatch? :D

the listing:
HIGH-INTENSITY, PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE-BASED INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed quickly by a busy Music Library for placements in Film Trailers. Submit big, bombastic, Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals that would keep you on the edge of your seat if you were watching a Trailer that had music like this (check out the first minute): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpIhbDN58mA Give them huge percussive builds and heart-pounding rhythms that sound like they’re right of an ancient battle scene between the forces of good and evil. Non-melodic percussion instruments ONLY for this pitch! Think big tympani builds, dramatic cymbal crescendos, hard-hitting kodo or taiko drums, etc. Your Cues should sound authentic, with high-quality samples that sound indistinguishable from the real thing. Anything that sounds stiff, old, or obviously MIDI-driven won’t work for this pitch. Instrumentals need to be at least 2 minutes in length. Easy edit points and buttoned endings are preferred.

you are on a tear Russell! congrats!

I don't know if this is what the screener heard, but Battledress sounds like you are playing higher velocity samples much of the time (lots of stick attack) and it also sounds smaller cause its more intimate (there is less reverb). I imagine that would influence the decision. You could probably go back in and make some mods and have a tuned up alternate.

"needs more high intensity and development". was the reason for the return.
"Battlesdress" was written as under score. It's in a Library for that purpose. I was hoping it was close enough. No worries, though, I can write 1000 more of either.
