songtrust?

Post by rdance » Fri Aug 22, 2014 3:14 pm

does anyone use songtrust?

it looks like they register all your songs with your p.r.o., track and collect royalties etc. globally, for a $100 one-time setup fee, and a flat $50/year membership fee.

seems like it would save me hours of work with all the songs i have floating around out there.

Hmm, on top of the fees you mention it says 15% comission here https://www.songtrust.com/#/pricing
That can be pretty steep if you land some good deals down the line.

I like the idea of having someone to ship the paperwork over to, though.

I've never heard of them and admittedly I'm too busy to check out that link, but from what you just said there it sounds like a bunch of stuff you can easily do yourself. First off, as for the tracking royalties part, well that's precisely what the PRO is for. And as far as registering with the PROs, keep in mind that a lot of libraries will do that themselves anyway (that is, if you're talking about library music).

Sounds like a ripoff to me, at least for those kinda prices.

Yea, I wouldn't bother. Simple stuff you can do yourself.

Is TuneCore a better music publishing administrator than Songtrust?

If you need help, there are services you can hire (like Fancy Hands) that can do these kinds of tasks for you for a lot cheaper. A virtual assistant kind of deal

I'd be very careful before getting involved with any of these companies. In some cases whereby they take over publishing admin, music libraries won't accept your tracks anymore because they don't want to do deals where 3rd party admin is involved.

There really isn't anything that isn't fairly simple and straightforward for you to do yourself unless you are handling a huge catalog of music. Sometimes it can all seem overwhelming but that's where forums like this, groups on Facebook, self-education, etc. can help.
