looking for studio one help

Post by feaker66 » Wed Sep 03, 2014 6:37 am

Studio one ate my last song. I came back after only a few minute coffee break to find a blank screen.

I had to restart windows and when I went to start the song, there was only a title present.

On all other songs , when you right click, it show all the previous saved sessions. This had none.

When I click to start it a melodyne frame comes up that says melodyne 2% and then never changes.

I did find the song tracks under cache/bounce (when I bounced the tracks for a final mixdown?)

I have tried to contact presonus, but nothing yet, and by what I read on the internet, it won't be easy to talk to a person.

None of the FAQ talk about this problem.

I wanted to do a bunch of changes to this new tune I have been working on. If I lose it, it's not a huge deal,I just want to know what happened so I don't lose the next one?? (that might be "the big one)

Thanks for reading this

sincerely

Paul

Dear Paul,

I am so sorry about this.

Here is the Song, a really nice one, ... as usual !
It is called : "Finish What You Start"
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12902108
http://forums.taxi.com/topic128810.html

At your SoundClick, it is still there, so you can download your own Song !

And perhaps in the future, you can send the Mp3 of your newly created Songs to yourself, via e-mail, as a precaution.

After that, I don't know about Studio One, so I cannot help further.

By the way, Hector used to be good at being on the phone. A slight problem ? Hector would call. Do you have a contact number, a kind of a Customer Service linked with Studio One ?

No Catherine, somebody with knowledge of this product could most likely talk me through this is five minutes.

I am an old man just wanting to work in my studio without stress:)

Yes I do have it on a jump drive, but I can't work on it. It's not a great song, but it's one that is fun to mess with.

The work flow is ten times easier in studio one when it is working right.

The sun will rise tomorrow and I hope I get to see it:)

You are a sweet soul

sincerely

Paul

Experience has taught me to name a new project immediately in the daw. Most daws somewhere in the preferences let you set how often the project is saved. The best habit is to always select "File" from the menu, and then "Save", instinctively anytime you do work that you would hate to lose if the daw suddenly crashes or acts up. But I do that with other programs as well.

Also, you should probably set your computer to where it doesn't go to sleep after a certain time of inactivity.

Just think, "File, save"! You could set the save function to automatically save quite often, though sometimes that is a pain because your program might interrupt frequently.

I don't know much about file structure in S1, (I have it, but haven't used it much) so I don't have much specific help for your situation. However, S1 may have an autosave feature hidden in a preferences menu somewhere; that could prevent further troubles; consult your manual. I have Tracktion set to autosave every ten minutes. It's smart enough not to autosave while in record, thankfully, so it never interrupts a take.

If you've found the WAV files, you should be able to reconstruct your session by importing those files into a new session, edit or project, whatever your DAW's preferred term for that is.(again, your manual can provide directions for that) Most DAW operations are non-destructive, meaning that if you screw something up, you can undo and/or redo them. It's best to do a "save as" to a new version before attempting a destructive operation such as rendering a track or clip. That way, if you get a poof crash in the middle of a render, you can easily retrieve the original file and try again, cuz usually the only data lost in a crash is whatever's in the RAM buffers.

I think the autosave on S1 is set to default at every 10 minutes, however I got in the habit of hitting the "Ctrl S" on any DAW I'm working with on a regular basis, especially after laying a track down. I never rely on the autosave function on any DAW.

Len and gus Yes I hit control S every few minutes myself. I disabled the automatic save because I thought it was using extra hard drive space. I have a new computer and about a third of the memory is already used up with only about six songs on there. Maybe its the 64 bit thangy?? and Len "just think, file-save" the think is the hard part:)

Moj I hear you with the save as. I just think I am burning memory having another clone type song. I am going to try and get those files out and start a new project. I don't mind it crashing every once in awhile and losing just a little bit of work, but having it all go is another thing. I wish you could pay a certain sum of money to be able to call and talk to someone. I'd pay $100 in a minute for that feature.

Thanks guys, got some things to think about and try.

this forum is awesome end of story.

sincerely

Paul
