Motel 6 for Rally?

Post by denalihighway » Tue Sep 09, 2014 4:37 pm

Hey all,

The Westin is over-budget for me alas, coming from Ireland, just getting there is a big enough deal.

Reckon I'll go with Motel 6 https://www.google.ie/maps/place/Motel+ ... af88efce1d

I'm not one to fuss about low-key accommodation. I get a bit of a buzz from it for some reason. It's the backpacker in me. So I probably won't be dissappointed! Its only a 10 min stroll too. Seems fine. But if any of you Californians are aware of any big reasons why I shouldn't...I want to keep making music for a while yet before dying in a hail of bullets.

...some quality US-related generalisation there :)

anyhoo...cheers
Gar

Hello.

I don't know about a problem with walking, but how much is the room there? Why not share a room with someone and stay at the heart of it. There is so much going on after hours, that it's worth it to stay on site. And if you're sharing a room. It brings the cost down to around $70 a night. How much cheaper is the Motel 6?

Cheers

You should be fine walking back to the Motel 6 as long as you dress appropriately...

Seriously, consider what KC said. It's really a much better experience if you stay at the Westin. It's nice to be able to quickly shoot up to your room whenever you need to.

Thanks for the replies lads

Great pic Casey :) - unfortunately homeland security will prevent me from bringing my full rig...

Hmmm...

well I can half the price of the Westin by staying there (I'm there for 6 nights too so it adds up), and I do like my own room so its almost worth it for that alone. I'm very interested in the after hours stuff, I'll be there til the death every night I'm sure. (that's in my blood).

I can just bring a bag of my gear each day - and I can easily get to the hotel if needs be. I'm a fast walker so that walk is easily 5 mins. I can't see that precluding me too much from what's happening in the hotel.

You're probably wondering why I posted, if I'm gonna ignore your advice! Your advice is very sound, and I had certainly thought of sharing a room. Just more worried there's nothing unsafe/weird about the hotel.

Hmmm...will have a think

thanks
Gar

Ok. I understand.

I don't know the neighborhood, hopefully someone who is familiar will chime in.

Cheers. See you at the Rally

I stayed at that Motel 6. its clean and simple. ok. Not sure how far from the Westin it is but if you don't mind some exercise then it might work. but easier to stay at the Westin.

I heard from a friend to stay away form the south side of the main road particularly the underground part. He told me gangs hung out there. Might not be real gangs probably just down and outs. But I guess not worth wasting time going and checking out.

Hey Gavin,

Thanks for that - clean and simple - good enough for me :)

Its on the north side of West Century. Its really only a stone's throw away, I'll enjoy the walk and be careful in the dark I guess, the usual rules apply.

I'll make up my mind fully over the next week or so.

Thanks lads

I usually stay at the LaQuinta which is directly across the street from the Westin. They have a really nice breakfast layout that is included (will save you some money as well) - though the coffee is basically brown colored water.

A hail of gunfire?? lol! Most likely from the police if it's a particularly upscale area, especially if they see a suspicious character walking fast with a bag late at night, lol!! Just don't forget and leave your bag somewhere, suspicious packages usually elicit the bomb squad to blow them up!

They might not bother a jogger!
