Do you guys/gals add yourself to shows on IMDb?

Post by sethlit » Mon Oct 06, 2014 9:32 pm

Occasionally when checking show information on IMDb, I see familiar names as composer credits (Taxi folk!). I haven't thought much of adding myself to shows that I've had music in, until now. Any pros or cons? Worth the effort? Thoughts?

Wow, I didn't know you even could do that!

Do you think these are people who got in as part of a bunch of library music, or maybe these are people who have a more personal relationship with the show and were hired specifically by the show?

Doing some imdb research recently, I was surprised to see production music composers listed on pages for some TV shows. I would assume those composers added themselves to the page. I would also assume that most production music composers are not listed; if they were. the pages would be a mile long for some shows. What are the upsides and downsides of being listed as a PM composer on an imdb page? I would guess that if there was a big upside, more folks would do it, but I don't know.

For production music placements in movies, perhaps it's worth pursuing a listing. I have had placements like this, but I don't exist on imdb.

the only stuff that is listed on my IMDB page are movies for which I was the composer and I was added by the producers of the movies, I didn't add myself. I don't have any TV shows listed. I agree that unless its your show - listing yourself as a production music composer is a little presumptuous. Obviously everybody has an inkling that if you are a contributing composer, that you didn't do all the music. So is it really useful to have those credits?

Good for discussion on that point.

That's what I was thinking. Like you Andy, my only credit was added by the film maker himself. I do see where some music libs are listed as providing production music for certain shows, but yeah, if every composer was listed, the list would be long.

I did have music on 9 out of 10 Game Of Arms episodes last season. Does that count!?!? ;)

I've only added myself for a film that used my song for the end credits. Oh and for a TV pilot about my old band that used our music that never actually got picked up...but it looks cool. Lol.
