I think Tony Rice et al. already did the jazz grass thing and called in "newgrass"

Hmmm... very interesting... hadn't heard of them fellers before.
The banner behind them does read "Bluegrass Festival"... :? 8-)
The flute threw me... would have preferred a Dobro or even an accordion there;
to these old ears it made for a weird tonal blend. (a hippy who overstayed his welcome :lol: )
And then... there's Bela Fleck... who basically can do anything and it's never "wrong". :lol:

Oh my lord Peter!!! :o Many consider Dave Grisman the creator of "Jazz Bluegrass" otherwise known as "Dawg"(sure others will chime in)
He is one of the greatest mandolin players of all time.
You should definitely take the time to listen to his bodies of work!
You won't regret it!!! :D
