Question about CDs

Post by Tim_Behrens » Sun Oct 19, 2014 6:56 pm

Hi folks,

This will be my first year attending. I'm getting some cds together to bring to the Rally, and had a few questions.

I'm both an acoustic singer/songwriter and an instrumentalist who dabbles in midi orchestration. My acoustic songwriter songs are very different from my instrumental music, which is more 'orchestral' flavored. Would I be better served to make two different cds, one for each of my styles, or would it be okay to just put together a sampler of sorts, with the songs styles and genres clearly marked?

Also, when burning cds, is it okay to use mp3s, or should they be audio cds that can be played in any cd player? I saw on Taxi TV that mp3s can be tagged with all sorts of information. I'm not sure if it's possible to do that with wav files (showing some of my inexperience here).

I'm excited to meet everyone, and plan on wearing a dot on my badge. I'm not super vocal in these forums, but it's pretty much a daily stop for me.
Thanks for your time and see you soon!

Tim

Hello Tim,

Here's a great thread from Casey that answers several of your questions about CDs http://forums.taxi.com/topic72927.html

As for mp3s and wav files, I'd recommend you burn an audio CD since it will be compatible with all CD players. An MP3 CD may not work in older or less expensive CD players. There are certain CD players that read information from audio discs, but I've never burned a disc like that so I can't help there. As for MP3s, yes you'd want to put the ID3 tag information into them before sending them to anyone. You can accomplish that by using iTunes or when exporting to MP3 (if your using Logic Pro as your DAW).

I hope that helps,
John

Definitely audio CDs, not mp3 ones... You want, as John said, CDs that are compatible with ALL players.

Getting the tags to stick when you burn an audio CD is a pain and I haven't conquered that one (Others have). Make sure you list the track titles on the CD packaging (sleeve or case), not just on the CD. Also be sure your name and contact info is on both the CD and the packaging.

Cya there!

Best
:D Casey

Hey Casey... I just realized your forum title of "King Of The World" and noticed your crazy post count of over 11,000. You should have a badge full of dots this year LOL :D

Sorry to digress.
See you there.
