A new A/C ballad, "A Good Night"

Post by singer1 » Mon Oct 20, 2014 12:39 pm

Hey Taxi gang, just worked through another new song, entitled "A Good Night", that can be found on my Taxi homepage. Going for that 'Disney' vibe. See whatcha think. D.B.M. :D

David,

You've definitely got the vibe down for Disney.

Here are some of my thoughts.

For some reason the way you sing 'falter' seems a little off to me. I think it's the enunciation, but I'm not 100% sure. It could just be my ears.

I would be inclined to make the snare a little bit bigger (maybe add some reverb), especially as the song progresses, so that you get a big, romantic build.

I'm not sure I would back away from the rhythm in the 2nd verse. You've established a beat and you might want to keep it going.

I really like that background, wordless vocal. You could even stretch that out and end the song with it.

Good luck with it.

John

As to the comment on the 2nd verse, could you be more specific as to where I went 'astray'? The vocal delivery is still being worked. This was my 1st pass, so I am still trying to make it as perfect as possible. I love doing the 'wordless vocals' too. Kinda letting the engine run wild. :o Thanks for the input. D.B.M.

You're using the same drum programming in the 1st and 2nd verse, right? If so, I would add a little extra momentum to it to differentiate it.

Does that make sense?

Thanks John. I was thinking you were referring to the syncopation of the vocals. I will take a look at this as well as re-sing certain parts. Thank you again for your input. Always valuable!! :D D.B.M.

Input has led to changes. John, I added something in the way of percussion in the 2nd verse. Also changed some lyrics that were bothering me.( not to mention a few flat notes.... I told you not to mention it!)
Thanks John, for the valuable input. You've made a song better today! Yeah! Blessings, D.B.M. :D

Thank you to all for the kind words & input. John sealed it up with the suggestion regarding something xtra on the 2nd verse - percussion wise. Gives it a bit of lift he had referred to. A Big Thanks! This was fun, as it became what I had envisioned in my mind beforehand.( A very dangerous place to be...).
Look forward to singing for you all at one of the open mike nites. Maybe do something collectively??? Just a thought. Blessings, D.B.M.
