Song for the rally, some advice please

Post by robbiejhancock » Wed Oct 29, 2014 10:35 pm

Hey all! I am very much looking forward to the rally and hanging out and meeting you all! This will be my second rally and I am super excited :)

This song is a collaboration with fellow Taxi member Shayne Green. I am looking for production/arrangement and mix advice here in the direction of a film or TV song. Thanks in advance!

Hey Robbie and Shayne

This is a great song. I could see Bruce Springsteen singing this. I love the sound you have for the guitars and I think that this song lends itself well for film and tv. Also the title and lyrics work well together. I can't comment on the overall production, but what I'm hearing on the headphones is great.

Have fun at the road rally, I wish I was going

Hi Robbie!

Great song! It really pulled me in. And I think the low-key production works beautifully for this one.
This is really a good one. Congrats!

Have to say I agree with Tom... spot on with the Bruce reference. And, with regards to it fitting TV or film, allow me to make this comparison and observation (based on the cool photo/avatar on your soundcloud post of this song).
Little Big Town had a huge hit with their song "Tornado". What really helped, imho, is the story that gets told in the music video made to go along with their lyrics.

I don't know if you have at your disposal a video crew... but if you could put together a visual expression of the story you want to tell in your lyrics, that could be a dynamite combination.

Well done; it should have a bright future, imho.
hth, my 3-pennies-worth. 8-)
Cheers.

Very well done guys.

Only thing I picked up on was the vocal starts on some of the wording were a little out of sync. Just a tad:)

congrats

Robbie,

As a big Springsteen fan, I can definitely say that there are a tonne of his musical touches in here - with the only difference being the vocalist! If you want to pursue that, I'd make 2 slight adjustments.

Put a touch more reverb on the tambourine, it is pretty dry at the moment.

Beef up the kick drum a little, it needs a little more body.

Other than that, don't touch a thing!

Good luck with it.

John

Wonderful song. The vocals and guitars sound great. The only thing I would experiment with is when that 2nd ac guitar comes in. I thought the vocals were too far back at times when the song built up. May cut back that 2nd guitar just a smidge and see what happens.

Yup, killer tune guys. I was expecting it to build a little after the entrance of the harmonica, my ear was surprised when it immediately broke back down there, maybe add another element to that breakdown to differentiate it from the start of the tune? And personal preference here but I didn't care for the fade in of the guitar on the left, I would have preferred a clean entrance.

Great tune all the same, nice work fellas!
