Some folks in this town
Say forget my guitar
Just keep my feet on the ground
Stop gazin’ at the stars
And If I checked the mirror now and again
I’d see I’m no diff’rent than them
And there’s no way I’ll ever be more
Than what they settled for

But I prefer windows to mirrors
So I see beyond myself, to someplace else
Somewhere that’s far from here
My dreams are on the wing
Lifting me up where hope is king
And wonder awaits
Far above the clouds, of darkness and doubt
To a sky full of faith

People say don’t bother
That I oughtta quit
I should do what the fathers
Of their fathers did
But what good are roots if I can’t branch out
I’ll cry alone if I follow the crowd
And mornings without magic or art
Would just imprison my heart

But I prefer bridges to walls
And if the path I’m on, won’t lead me to dawn
Life won’t matter at all
My dreams are on the wing
Lifting me up where hope is king
And wonder awaits
Far above the clouds, of darkness and doubt
To a sky full of faith

Many say they’re taking a stand
But their heads are stuck in the sand
You can watch from the safe shoreline
Or sail the tides of time

And I prefer rivers to sand
And where my life will flow, isn’t theirs to know
Cos freedom is my promised land
