Chill/Ambient in need of ala's please ...

Post by PeterD » Mon Nov 17, 2014 10:46 pm

Hey guys!

I had NO idea who I'd be emulating when I did this one, but now I'm being asked for 3-4 reference artists.

Does anyone have an idea??
Here's the song: https://soundcloud.com/moanakeiki/happier-hours-c-2014

Thanks for listening!!

Heck if I know, dude... Definitely not in my wheelhouse! But I did enjoy listening. Nice track, my friend. (I know that doesn't help you at all with your question, haha)

Hey peter, it reminds me of smooth jazz meets new urban. As for referenced artists, look at the contemporary jazz artists and see if that is a close fit. Just my 2. D.B.M.

Replying without reading other comments, so not to color my thoughts...
first Bruce Hornsby (at least the piano & tempo) came to mind; then "smooth jazz" as a genre;
though you've got more modern/contemporary sounds/pads added in there. It also had me thinking of
Gregg Karukas (keyboard).. so I dug up this You Tube that has a similar vibe going on.

hth; nice track;

Peter,

I hear much of the styles already mentioned. I mean this just as an observation and in a positive way and nobody mentioned it yet (I don't think). Along with the other elements, there is sort of a Disco feel to it. Again, not meant to pigeon hole it at all because I believe there are many styles involved here. Sorry for not having any artist thoughts though.

Really nice work.

Bob P.

Thanks guys!! :D

I think what I’m looking for is a specific 3-4 artists that could be cross-referenced to this song (for library categorizing). I like that Jazz guy, Fun, and the disco elements, Bob, but it definitely has more electronica R&B in there …
I have NO idea where to even begin. :roll:
This is DIFficult!! :lol:

Okay... this is not "current"... but this album was a favorite back in the day;
so, not sure how close it might come as an ala: BUT, this could be a candidate for adding a heavy EDM drumming track over this nice melody?! Maybe even speeding it up...?
Kit Walker - "Dancing On The Edge of The World".

Here's another crazy "oldie"... that could hold up to an update? :? :shock:
Jean Luc Ponty - "Open Mind"

That... or my ears are older than I look. 8-)
oh well... still fun listening...
Cheers; and good luck.
(jeeeezzz... may as well have sent ya some Hank Williams.... )
