I've been using a pair of AKG K240s for the past two years. Great frequency response. They give me a clear and detailed sound without feeling over hyped or inaccurate.

Plus, they're comfy on my big head!

I own the seinheiser pro280 as well and I don't like them. I have to really crank up my Roland Octacapture interface to hear well. Don't like the fit either (all made for males I think it's a conspiracy ;) as they slip. Looking for some clear light loud phones....any suggestions?

Finally... :!: the Sony 7506s I ordered arrived; the weather back east is said to be the blame for the delayed shipment.
Heck... it's 80 degrees and summer-like on the island today... what's the problem?! :?
Anyway... they're comfortable and sound clean; ears are happy all over again.
Bring on some more tunes, folks... I'm ready. ;)

My main headphones are Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro that I purchased back in 2008 and have used them on every album/recording project since. To my ears they are the most balanced across the frequencies. And they're quite comfortable too.

I know the [popular] opinion is that one should not use headphones for mixing, especially final mixes, but the 770's are what I have used (since 2008) to "approve" all my final mixes before they head off to the mastering house.

The key to any set of monitors or headphones is in getting to know them intimately. To me the 770's provide the most "true" sound. I check my mixes on other sources of course; but I know what I need to hear back in the cans when making mix adjustments.

Great thread, thanks everyone.

I'm another ATH-M50 man - the first proper studio headphones I've had, so nothing much to reference off except other buds, and headphones that I listen to music to on the go etc...and certainly the M50s give me everything I need, which for me is transparency, full range and comfort.

BUT - I've lost a channel due to a frayed wire! So I'm trying to get them fixed right now...difficult. Need to replace the wire in the headset. This happened as a result of the earpiece breaking off after some serious carelessness / 'tiredness' in the studio...

Someone may have asked this earlier. What do the Taxi screeners use? :-)

Holy cow... Just got a pain of AKG K 240 headphones for my birthday... Totally changes how my mixes sound, much more bass now. I was using a 25 year old pair of Sony 7506's, major difference. Perhaps I should get a new pair of the 7506's and compare.

Also got an iConnect MIDI1 thunderbolt interface. Now I can connect my EWI to Logic. 8-) My wife rocks... (As does Amazon's wish list feature).

So, I went out and bought a new pair of Sony MDR-7506's yesterday to compare to the AKG k240's. My ears tell me that the Sony still kicks butt, has much brighter high frequencies, while the AKG sounds quite a bit darker. I noticed after doing a mix using the AKG's that when I played back through my monitors the high string patch was very bright and too hot in the mix. So, I think a was overcompensating for the lack of highs in the AKG headphones. I'll keep both pair handy, but I think I'm sticking with the 7506 most of the time.
