Most of what follows is false...
Rock n Roll Was In Their DNA ©2014 Robert George BMI
Jarvis was a brilliant engineer
And he owned a think tank in Ohio
He designed a space-age biosphere
To discover life-forms in the Bayou
He sure missed that early rock n roll
And those shows like Sullivan and Bandstand
There was Muscle Shoals and Philly soul
Back when Skynyrd still had Ronnie Van Zandt
So he grabbed some Oxy he had stashed
From his bum knee and his burst appendix
Washed a couple down with sour mash
And he cranked The Who and Jimi Hendrix
Cos rock n roll was in their DNA
And they don’t make that music anymore
Modern videos are T n A
And those great old bands are dinosaurs
He awoke with visions, plans and schemes
Bass vibrations in his metal kneecap
Jarvis sent a southern research team
To recover skeeters from some tree sap
Masks across their noses and their mouths
And the crazy rumors made them skittish
But he knew those old bands toured the south
Even though alotta them were British
Was it really diabolical
To despise where rock n roll was heading
And so down to ev’ry hair and follicle
He cloned Brian Jones and Otis Redding
Cos rock n roll was in their DNA
And they don’t make those albums anymore
Modern videos are T n A
And those great old bands are dinosaurs
He got Rick and Levon and Keith Moon
Then came John and George and Jerry Lieber
Shocked by drum machines and auto-tune
They just laughed at rap and Justin Bieber
With a song or riff from ev’ryone
Dusk to dawn rehearsals were much looser
They booked secret sessions down at Sun
With Sam Phillips as their sole producer
There were whispers in the midnight air
Slap back echoes of a myst’ry spirit
Though he wasn’t present he was there
If they listened closely they could hear it
Cos rock n roll was in their DNA
And they don’t make those records anymore
Modern videos are T n A
And those great old bands are dinosaurs
Jarvis loved the voice of Levon Helm
And he hoped his heart would be transported
To another land, another realm
By the magic music they recorded
And the past had so much left to prove
Cos the future looked so bleak and foggy
But he laid the needle in the groove
And he woke up feelin’ weak and groggy
Then he cried because he knew those men
Had since faded to the never, never
And we won’t soon see their likes again
But their soulful songs will last forever
Cos rock n roll was in their DNA
And they don’t make that music anymore
Modern videos are T n A
And those great old bands are dinosaurs
Yeah, rock n roll was in their DNA
And they don’t make those albums anymore
Modern videos are T n A
And those great old bands are dinosaurs
Epilogue
O he poured some rye and cranked some Rolling Stones and Cream
His old records had a lotta scratches, pops and warps
But he smiled cos Brian Jones’d told him in his dream
That Keith Richards was a cold, reanimated corpse…

and... I once wondered if Mick Jagger's granite grave marker might one day bear the inscription:

Re: Rock n Roll Was In Their DNA
Yeah, haha. I'll probably delete that tag. It doesn't fit the tone of the rest of the lyric.
