Do you have a favorite song for 2014?
Not sure why I'm doing this except every now and then a song just seems SO magical and beautifully written it deserves note.. I remember, Viva La Vida...Bad Romance....We Are Young, as being past favorites. But this year, for me, it's Sia's, Chandelier. I'm going to post the video link when I get home. Breaks me up, every view...For ME it's nothing short of a masterpiece... party girl puts it out there... Her voice in the chorus?? ahh,...Kills me...
Got a favorite?? I know your taste will differ, but I'm really curious, what's your favourite??
LRC
Keep my glass full until morning light, cause I'm just holding on for tonight... ARGGG!! love this... here comes the shakes...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vjPBrBU-TM
I'M GOING TO SWING FROM THE CHANDELIER!!!
And then to have it all portrayed from the innocence of a 10 year old lyrical dancer...
I have faith in the world again... I am not alone....good art can do that...

Re: Do you have a favorite song for 2014?
Hey G.!!
Normally I would not, but for some reason last week's SNL music guest (Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars) and their song 'Uptown Funk' left a nice impression on me. So much so, I had a big smile on my face thinking, it's been 20+ years since a brand new song got my attention like that.
Maybe because it takes me back to the late 70's/early 80's and had a relatively clean & fun vibe about it.

Peter!
Just watched! Great fun! Good choice! He's a great writer. I really respect how he's mastered the formula. He works with it and then knocks it out of the park.

Thanks, for playing along, P! lol Not sure who if anyone'll bite. I'm really just curious about people's taste more than anything. We probably all think we have a monopoly on 'taste' but alas, we don't... lol

I'll play along... for fun...
while they don't necessarily jump out as favorite songs... there are 3 performances of very well-crafted (hit) songs that I've listened to rePete-edly... because they seemed to capture their own "moment":
#1) was this duet:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiWiwzj4j0g
#2) was this cover: (sorry the audio quality is weak):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEzyr4g4A5c
#3) while this has over 12mil views, it got NOT ONE mention at the CMAs:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MOavH-Eivw
What's up with that? well, that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.
Cheers.

Hey Graham
I have to agree with you about the song "Chandelier". It is truly original and what caught my eye in the video was the little girl dancing. She is from a show that my wife watches all the time called " Dance Moms ", but anyway, I just had to figure out the chords for that song and I was not surprised at all, that it is a 3 chord wonder F G C. Some of the best songs have the fewest chords.
Anyway Graham, good choice for best song of the year.

Re: Do you have a favorite song for 2014?
Graham,
Long time without chatting.
I read this post last night and have been thinking about it.
I'm always impressed when someone is able to produce an instantly catchy song, that isn't trite. This one came out in May, by a good Canadian called Jeremy Fisher. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKlYwVl2kZQ The first time my kids heard it they were singing along. This is my runner up for 2014.
The winner? This: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyT-oGDnMqE. I was on a flight and I watched a film called Begin Again. I downloaded the soundtrack when I got home - and I rarely buy soundtracks. The main guy who wrote the soundtrack was Gregg Alexander, who was the New Radicals (remember their hit 'You Get What You Give'?). I have played this tune probably more than any other song this year, so it's the winner (probably because I wish I had written it!).

Interesting about the girl.. No idea. i DO know that her dance is definitely part of the erie appeal of the song. Wonder who choreographed it... Amazing.... All those little expressions.. Some innocent, some grandiose, some comical, and others almost scary evil, ...Maybe this song/video is more a testament to the power of collaboration...
Thanks t
John
Good choice. I'm NOT an Adam Lavine fan for reasons I'm not really sure of... (maybe sour grapes sort of thing...) but yeah, nice song.. Very memorable.
Thanks
