waves, ua, or slate ...such a killer decision

Post by JamesCarvalho » Tue Dec 02, 2014 7:05 pm

i cant decide ... the cyber deals are so good but .. i'm about to make plunge in some more pluggins.. i hope i'm in the right spot..

the waves gold bundle is soo tempting .. but i been dreaming about ua stuff too...

so many talk up the waves ...but, I wonder if it is tough on the cpu.. i think the external dsp of UA seems a very smart approach.

then theres slate with his surprisingly good rep and reasonable prices (although i don't like the iLOK)...i been nickeling and dime-ing my self for a while here and there but i get going on the foundation .. and i know i'm gonna get set back with learning curve.

deals are ending soon

I was able to make it through another black cyber season without making any purchases. Not that I wasnt tempted, but saving my pennies for a major upgrade next year.

So I. The interest of living vicariously, what did you end up with?

Cheers

well i pretty much held out too.. kc.... it was tough..

but i did get a slate fg-x which is pretty cool and
that a/b referencing plugin.. looking forward to a/b ing my mixes more.

i'm leaning toward that sweet uad Apollo twin duo interface ,
with the start up ..analog bundle

powered pluggins seem smart as long as i can use other ones on my host computer too.

UA, Waves, and Slate are all good and very useful tools to have. Each of them will have a different vibe to spice up your audio with. I own several UA and Waves plugins and several from each company find their way on just about every single project of mine.

There are only two Waves plugins that I use regularly... L2, and the NLS stuff.

Actually, I have stopped getting 3'rd party plugins. I already have too many, and have found my preferred ones to tweak. I might go the UA route sometime in the future (when I can afford it), but I have wupped anything with an iLok out of my system, and I've always found the Slate stuff too crude sounding anyway.

Hi jimc

As far as 3rd party plugins go I wait until they are dirt cheap rather than full price, then I ask myself do I need it and if so I buy it.

I have quite a few waves plugins that I use ......and some that I don't.
I love the brainworx meters and plugs and also Lcast as mentioned in Ian Shepherds blogs and videos

regards
Don
