Country songwriter's lament...

Post by funsongs » Fri Dec 05, 2014 4:03 pm

Could use help with a tune and/or melody for this...
The Bar’s Too High!
Verse 1)
“The bar’s too high!”… a songwriter said
Well that explains this big ol’ lump on my head
I thought it mighta been from all the slammed doors
Not from drinkin’ all the barkeep pours
Verse 2)
You see… I’ve been tryin’ to pitch some tunes
To the big boys in Nashville… not just any old goons
But unless you’ve lived the cowboy life… you know…
Left all alone by your dog and a wife… well…
Pre-Chorus)
You’ve not much of a chance to give a song to pitch
(Man… my head hurts like a son of a b****!)
Well that explains this swellin’ … like I said
I reckon I should try another genre instead
Chorus)
“The bar’s too high!” I said with a sigh
While reachin’ for my beer I started to cry
The tears began to roll down my face
And… a man don’t cry in a cowboy - kind - of - place!
With tears and beers flowing… everything wet on the bottom
Suddenly slipped ‘n hit my ol’ noggin
“The bar’s too high!” I shouted… “and I’m such a fool!”
Then someone said, “Maybe all you need is a higher stool!”
Bridge)
Yeah… that’s it… there’s nothin’ wrong with my song
It’s just that I’ve been sittin’ on a low seat too long :? 8-)

Nice noodles, Peter!
Could be great in a show like "Nashville" :D

Reads like a marriage between Austin and Broadway in Country.
The stuff country movies are made of.

I remember an old Dolly Parton film this could've scored.

Great to have when you get the gig!
Ceo of my own life

Peter,

I can't help much with lyrics. But one question I've got for you. You've been posting a lot of lyrics recently. Do they have music to go with them or are you writing the lyrics first and then planning on adding music later? We all work in different ways, so I'm curious. I've never been able to write lyrics and then add music after the fact - something in my brain doesn't work that way!

John
