Pop Instrumental... Spend the Fiver???

Post by cassmcentee » Tue Dec 09, 2014 7:30 pm

Is this too "Frenetic" for either of these listings?

Contemporary POP INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a Non-Exclusive Music Licensing Company that specializes in licensing music to videographers and photographers, as well as Film, TV, Video Games, and Corporate Videos. They’re eager to add some Mid-to-Up-Tempo Pop Instrumentals to their catalog with the same fun vibe as artists like Katy Perry, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, etc., etc., etc. They need full-length Instrumentals that are structured like songs, but without vocals – so give them fully developed, contemporary Pop tracks with an emotionally upbeat melody and fun danceable hooks. Great beats, great sounds, and a big, radio-style chorus (without vocals) should get you to the top of the stack for this pitch. Please avoid anything too busy or frenetic, as they might not work well under dialog

or

DANCE POP INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by the Owner of a busy Non-Exclusive Library that consistently lands placements in some big TV Shows, trailers, and films. Give him Mid-to-Up Tempo Cues, 100 BPM – 140 BPM, with the same get up and move rhythm as songs by artists like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, etc., etc., etc. But, in this case, the company is just looking for INSTRUMENTAL Cues with no vocals. Start with a short intro, or even no intro, jump right into a central melodic motif, and add layers of instrumentation to add interest as your Cue progresses. He’s after that Top 40 Pop feel, so submissions should have an undeniably danceable energy, a great four on the floor beat, and slick melodic hooks throughout. Some electronic elements could work, but shouldn’t dominate the sound.

Cass!!!

I like the progression and vibe, but it might need a lil more "umph" ... I ONLY say that because the kick/clap seem a little "soft" (not ballsy enough). I'm thinking more of a "2013 How It's Made Episode."

This is BY NO MEANS my forte, but based on some Katy Perry that I'm familiar with, that's where I'm getting my opinion.

I hope the others can shed some other notes.
Can't wait to hear the final version!
:D

I hear ya Peter, Thanks :D  :D
Pushed everything super hard and lost any real punch...
I've been thinking to start the whole mix over from near scratch... get the final chorus hits sounding good and work backwards
Still in the works with some of the synth phrases as well
Thank you again!

i like the arrangement. i think peter is on track...it needs to sound thicker in the middle with the drums driving more up front. also the lead synth line is a little thin sounding. i don't know what it's called, but the pop synths these days that play the lead hooks seem to have that thick 80's van halen 'jump' thing going on. (is my descript. making any sense? i know little about keys outside of the hammond and fender rhodes, ha ha)

anyway, always enjoy hearing your creations pahdner.

Cass!! Peter is right, that clap is lost in this mix. Get a mic on your hands and record about 4-5 claps tracks, then make 'em cut through like bullet shots. Pop music loves those claps.

Otherwise, I think the composition is good, but the lead synth almost sounds like a Chinese restaurant to me (haha, that description might not be the most descriptive, but that's what came to mind). Got anything else with more bite?

Craw & Matt,
Thank you for your time and ears!!! :D
I've broken it back down and am reworking it for mix and sounds per your suggestions.
I felt like the arrangement was pretty decent and I like the double transpo that lifts the ending...

I'll try to wrap it up before the year ends, right now I have some Hot Tamales that have to get to a Library's plate.
Thank you again!
Sincerely,
Cass

Not much to say about the piece overall other than I like it, but I will add that I like what the guitars are doing in support of the whole thing.
