Songwriting Seminars & Workshops Summer '15 in USA

Post by magicjuani » Sun Dec 14, 2014 12:56 pm

Hi guys!
Any songwriting workshops / seminars scheduled in the USA in February 2015?

I'm looking forward to attending Jason Blume's workshop in Nashville about song re-writing.

I'll be in the country from mid-February to the end of the month.

I'm also eager to meet some people in NYC or Nashville...

Thanks for your help!

While I'm not the traveling-kind, your post had me curiously taking your subject line and doing a Google search. That might be your best bet in order to find those events that are most suited to your travel plans... there seem to be many such events to choose from.
That as a given, it would be somewhat of a guess to create such a list without knowing your itinerary.

I'm a bit envious of your getting to go to Nashville, as that's a Bucket List wish of my own.

Good luck to you on your search; maybe a more knowledgeable TAXI member
will be able to provide you some good leads.
Cheers,

If I had to make a choice, I would rather be in New York. But Nashville can also do a trick for one day or two as it is that far from Big Apple.

There are great songwriting workshops all over the country during the summer. The one's that I've gone to and enjoyed include:

The Swannanoa Gathering, Asheville, NC (Contemporary Folk/Guitar week) http://www.swangathering.com
Summer Acoustic Music Week (SAM-W), Boston, MA area (http://www.wumb.org/samw/)
Common Ground on the Hill, Westminster, Md. http://www.CommonGroundOnTheHill.org (thin on songwriting, but very diverse)
Martha's Vineyard Songwriter's Fest, Martha's Vineyard, MA http://marthasvineyardsongwritingfest.com/

There are many others. Good luck!

Thank you for the list Mike!

Do these workshops come from a directory you found on awebsite or did you compile these events based on your research online? If there's a specific directory, may you give me a link please? Thanks!

Juani,

The list I sent were some of the summer workshops I've been to that have good bang for the buck. Swannanoa and Common Ground are held on college campuses with dorm style housing, and the room and board is reasonable. You can take a full slate of courses, or just one or two and have more down time. Swannanoa has five or six other weeks, each with a different focus, and Common Ground has two weeks. SAMW is two separate weeks held at an old religious resort camp (very rustic), and Martha's Vineyard is a long weekend, very reasonably priced in mid-September.

I try to go to one every year, and usually I just google some variation on "summer songwriting workshops." Acoustic Guitar Magazine used to do an issue every year with a more complete list, but I don't know if they still do. It depends on what your budget is, where you want to travel to and who the presenter's are.

Good luck!
Mike
