True Life on MTV = True Cash for MVB!

Post by VanderBoegh » Sat Dec 20, 2014 8:54 am

Just got word from a publisher who's become quite the recognizable face (and force!) around Taxi circles that 3 of my hip hop cues are getting used on MTV's "True Life". It's a Christmas miracle, haha!

Last summer, I wrote about 30 hip hop tracks for this publisher, and the tracks that are now getting used were among the first couple of submissions to him. Looks like all of those sleepless nights are going to translate into some money. It's nice to see the results of long labor, because when you're in the studio grinding out music, you can often wonder "is this really worth the effort?" I guess good things come to those that just keep going! The three tracks of mine that are getting some traction right now are:

Benjamins: https://soundcloud.com/vanderboegh/benjamins (this is the full version, though the rhythm bed mix is what's getting placed)
Blinged Out: https://soundcloud.com/vanderboegh/blinged-out (same as above, rhythm bed mix is getting placed, which I don't have on SoundCloud)
Serious Bidness: https://soundcloud.com/vanderboegh/serious-bidniss (using full version)

I do want to give a big thanks to Owen Chaim, who - even though he didn't know it - was a hip hop mentor to me by creating music that is much better than mine, and posting it to SoundCloud so I could learn from the best. Studying his music is like taking a comprehensive university course on hip hop styles and production.

Merry Christmas everyone!

~~Matt

Merry Christmas Matt So happy for you. Matt I am sorry that I didn't get to meet you at the Rally. I do have a library that likes my stuff. I just keep writing don't know what I'D do without Taxi Sometimes I wish the people in my family would understand the process and not give up and think its a scam. I always keep the hope. GUys like you Inspire me. Thanks

Awesome, wonderful, timely news, Professor. And that's a very honorable shoutout to Owen.
In an odd way, that still resonates like a pay-if-forward as much as kudos/back, imho.
Nice way to close out the year.
Cheers,
Peter

Thanks everyone. Probably shouldn't run out and buy extra Christmas presents since I won't get the royalty check until probably April or July, but it sure is tempting!
