Yes, although I'm actually on 4, not 5. Will upgrade one of these days

It does sound pretty good... and it's about $120, $303, or $487 (USD) depending on how much tweaking you want to be able to do to the sounds.
To upgrade costs no more than paying the difference which is nice.
Thanks for the research and info... already starting my list for Santa for 2015. 8-)

I don't know if this is improved in v5, but v4 is a bit of a resource hog, and slightly buggy GUI-wise. But it is quite an achievement I think - very playable. If you are a keyboard player and low latency matters a lot to you, you might like it. They have a demo.

enjoy!

i don't here anything wrong or weird with the piano. i'm guessing the screener's ears were gone after a long day.

Hmmmm .... Interesting stuff Russell 'n Jon.

All these toys to consider! I suppose it's only money (and space), right?

Thanks Rich! :D

I like that possibility, but I admit there's some kind of strange fuzzy echo (enhanced by the reverb) that's in there. :? Everyone seems to think it's a Native Instruments thing. It's easy to hide when it's buried in the mix, but is definitely there when there's nowhere to hide ... :(

New Year ... New Piano samples!

I've noticed strange artifacts in sampled pianos that I think are from the mic'ing technique when sampling. All these NI pianos sound to me like my head is up under the hood with my ears right next to the strings. The pedal thump is annoying and I can feel the breeze from the strings.

We don't listen to real pianos from inside, and when we put fx on these close-mic'd samples, all it sounds like is fx on a close-mic'd piano. I mean Really! When we listen to a piano in a room, we don't hear the thump of that pedal, and we certainly don't hear the low strings in our left ear and the high strings in our right ear....

Some times I think sample libraries aren't created by people who actually PLAY the instrument.

I hear you Russ. The Pianoteq modeled piano - at least version 4 - is kind of like you describe too. You can *smell* the strings, man! An ECU. At least with the Pianoteq, you can just turn down key noise and pedal noise. But getting the tone to be non-hairy is not as easy as turning the overall volume down.

I demoed the v5, but haven't had time to really put it through its paces. Once I can do that, either on the demo or the upgrade, I'll report back.
The quest goes on.
